You think that because they had weapons they could have fought the bandits despite how many there were. And running away like the bandits could still be an option because Fen yelled at them to leave the area ('begone from my land and never return'), which means she wasn't going to attack. These two don't seem like the best guards.

Although, the clothes could have been given an upgrade though in between these events, and the idea of clothes changing with Hadalen magic sounds pretty neat.
