Here's a recent photo of my sketchbooks. There's about 60.
Some are unnumbered from when I was little. There are 2 that hare 'half' sketchbooks because I fucked up the numbering or randomly started drawing in them. The ones on the lower right are comic, gift art, and misc unnumbered sketchbooks.
Currently drawing in 54 and 55.

Not really different things. I like the variety. 53 was a horizontal sketchbook while 54 is a crappy spiral bound one. 55 has the spiral on the top and a different paper texture. Though 54 was originally started as a sketchbook for comics. Now it's more class doodles.
I used to draw one at a time but I would get bored and not want to draw in it for a while.

ohhh, I see. I have two sketchbooks and two journals on the go right now..One of the sketchbooks is more personal and sometimes I write in it too. I think I'm the same, I'd get bored if I just drew in one at a time.
Do you draw in one everyday? Or just when you get inspiration?

Oh man, I wish I was better at keeping a journal. I always forget and then there's like huge month gaps between entries X3 I started a collage type one but I don't think that will go very far.
I always carry a sketchbook with me. Which is a good habit. For school I have about 3 in my backpack at a time. Right now it's mostly class doodles (so I don't doodle on my notes)
When I was in high school I would almost go into a panic if I forgot my sketchbook at home X3

I used to be super good at keeping a journal. I kept it under my pillow and wrote in one every day for FOUR YEARS. If my parents ever find them.. D: But it's neat to look back and see what I did on certain days and how I've changed. I'm trying to get back into the habit of writing everyday. I have a really bad memory and writing it down helps me remember, and if I forget I can always try to find it.
I don't really go out much, but I try to bring a little notebook with me. I want to draw more. I don't feel like I'm improving >':

Yeah, I like remembering cool things, or maybe not so cool things, that happened on certain days. It's weird because I can look through a super old sketchbook and say exactly where and when I was when I drew that picture. While some I don't really remember drawing, most I do.
I've started drawing more from life and it has helped out a lot. I think the biggest improvement was when I took a figure drawing class. My art looked so much better after that. Hahahaha. All I can say is keep drawing. Draw everything. (okay, maybe not everything but you know what I mean ;3 )

My favorite is the hardbound Canson sketchbooks (now Cachet I think?) I have 15 of those and a few more spiral bound ones. The Cachet earthbound ones were great but are now next to impossible to find. My next favorite are the handmade ones from Nepal (which I got at Barnes & Nobles) because they have awesome textured paper.
I have a few Moleskines but they're not necessarily my favorite. I use those for class mostly. I had a hardbound journal one (thinner paper) and it was a pain to draw in after a while.

i used to carry small sketchbooks around when i was in school too. i finally tried out some of those fancy moleskine books people seem to like, but can't get in to using them. i liked sketching in the small books when i was in class or taking notes or something. now that i sit around with all my regular art supplies all day i never seem to use the smaller ones. which sucks because some of the best sketches i ever drew were from being bored out of my mind in lecture halls :(
Yeah. I feel the same with my class sketches. They seem so much better than what I do sitting on my own. It's weird.
What kind of sketchbook do you normally use? So many people love (and swear by) moleskines but I can't get into them either. They're nicely made but I'm not a huge fan of the paper.

canson universal sketchbooks mostly. not heavy enough for any wet applications but it's the best sketchbook that takes pilot brush pen ink without bleeding. i also like canson biggie sketch pads. whe i did carry smaller sketchbooks to class, i used canson and a cachet hardcover/wirebound called deja vu. i liked it because the paper was heavier weight then their other books without having too much tooth. i don't think they make it anymore though.
there was this OTHER small sketchbook that i had that i can't find anymore. hardcover. 6x8.5x1.75", 200 pages (25 signatures x 4 folios [8 sheets] per signature). probably somewhere between 70-85lb, maye even 90. smooth-med tooth. don't know the brand. bought it once from flax and never saw it there again, only its smaller counterpart, ehich at that thickness was way too small to sketch in comfortably. which really blows because it was the perfect sketchbook. took all media really well. smooth enough to take all ink pens (including those ultra tiny .25 gel pens) but had enough tooth to accept dry media really well. my best ideas came from that sketchbook during school. i'm still on the hunt for something to replace it.

Oooh, I have a few of those, I've collaged/painted the covers so I couldn't really remember what they were, hahah. I've seen the deja vu ones before, but I've never used one.
I'm so intrigued now. It sounds perfect, hahaha.
I always get excited when I see a new sketchbook I haven't seen before on the shelves of whatever art store I'm in. I'm curious about this 'flexi-sketch' sketchbooks but I've only seen those online. I'd like to check it out in person instead of blindly order it online.
