Its all about the practice... like 90 percent of the stuff that I do is exactly the same, except for tiny little tweaks. Its all in preparation for when I have real drive and motivation to create, then I have a lot of skill to implement that urge.

Good cropping (little bit of an eye showing is good). The woodcut/scratching style is also a plus. I like the way that little bits of black eat away at the background... but I'm thinking a little more detail would increase the "interest"(as they say in art school). Maybe white outlines of stiching on the shirt and the pockets?
