Anyone recall a few weeks/a month back when i posted my last Keyblade model of me mentioning a 'Machina Keyblade' and 'i'll post is soon'. Yeah, i forgot too. Posting it now while i'm pulling my hair out over part of a trade i did with someone. :angrehfaec:
Anyhow, the Machina Keyblade, Machina is latin for Machine if i recall correctly if anyone is familiar with literature, or whatever it was involved with, Duece Ex Machina is Latin for 'God from the Machine' or something like that.
ANYHOW, the Machina keyblade isn't you everyday 'i flex my hand and poof there's a keyblade' kinda keyblade. In fact, its strapped into a holster on your leg, and doesn't come with a chain/dangle-thing, it can be given one but nothing 'special' happens. I was mostly inspired for a keyblade that was visible, compact, and could be easily concealed (even though pulling it out of thin air probably beats hiding it on yourself) and i recalled the spring loaded batons like the ones used in RE: Apocalyspe(sp?), or whichever one that had Nemisis.
With that thought in mind I decided to make a spring loaded keyblade, but of much tougher stuff, or possibly made of the same material a spring stick is made out of. The end of the Machina blade has a prong which functions as a sort of taser while in short mode, and while in long mode has a stored charge that is only good once while in long mode, to have a fresh charge you'd have to retract it again.
To deploy the Machina keyblade into 'long mode' you can flick it/your wrist and it'll pop out into long mode, or you could press the button if you don't want to be a show off. The holster is essentially a leg holster with a strap that rests with the prong on each side, a wider piece of fabric holding the lower half of the handle/guard which has a snap release holding the bottom half of the Machine Keyblade into the holster, and a smaller snap release further up holding the actual handle into the holster. Though between 'summoning' a keyblade and pulling the Machina Blade out, the summoner would be able to pull out, wield, and attack faster than the user of the Machina keyblade. The Machina blade user would have to unsnap both of the snap release's, which just requires pulling up on each individually, then pulling the Machina blade up and out of the holster then deploying it into long mode.
I had put a fair bit of thought into the Machina keyblade and in truth i'd be used as a sort of side arm to a summonable keyblade. Forgot how long it took to modify the Machina blade from the Walking Oblivions Edge keyblade. But you can tell both share some similairites.
Modeled in Google sketchup 7.
Enjoy~

If i'm correct the newest game to teh Kingdom Hearts Series, Birth by Sleep, has both legit keyblades (that never break) and keyblades without chains (can be broken as shown in one cutscene). So it leads me to believe those that cannot weild an actual keyblade make their own, and the Machina Keyblade is one such keyblade.
I'm not sure of the lore, but from what i've understood from the game. The keyblade changes shape/form when you remove and attache a different keychain. So the most basest of the base keyblades, the kingdom keyblade (has the mickeymouse shapped chain end). So for example, you take that keyblade and you remove its chain and clip on a new one, this new chain changes the keyblade into a new form.
Though i don't exactly get how one can wield two legit keyblades aside from saying "its the drive form that does it" since Roxas was able to do so but only because... well that's a spoiler for those that don't know or haven't gotten that far.
