I have fallen in love with the sonic comics. Yes, I am officially a sonic fan now XD
I picked one up on a whim once and decided to read from the beginning and I'm so glad I did because I've fallen in love with these two of the new characters! (and gotten to know all the others I only knew on the surface before from watching people play sonic games)
The IDW Sonic The Hedgehog series is super fun and I got so invested during some parts.
And Tangle is so fun and lively and endearing, I really like her and her stretchy tail abilities. And whisper is so badass yet so cute and precious.
Whisper is very clearly someone who deals with heavy social discomfort and is very anxious about physical contact specifically. I think she's a wonderful representation of people who find it very difficult to have other people in their personal space or making physical contact, which is something I myself have always dealt with and never realised it wasn't normal.
The way everyone traits this aspect of Whisper with respect is very heartwarming to see. They all give her the space she needs to grow comfortable with them in her own time. I love seeing her gradually grow okay with people getting up close to her or touching her, especially with Tangle. The moments where Whisper openly engages in a hug are so meaningful and impactful because that trust has to be *earned*.
So, here are these cuties crushing on each other and Tangle just wanting to be close to Whisper without making things overwhelming for her, though I think both really want a hug hehe.
I appreciate them in all types of ships, be it as best friends or in a romantic sense. I just wanted to draw them having cute feelings hehe

I really just don't think she should be though, and it truly annoys me that the biggest majority of people ship her with Whisper. Honestly, I just don't understand why people want Tangle this way, because I'm actually sick of all this forced LGBTQ Woke stuff. Tangle should be a straight character, and I just so happen to have her shipped with an OC of mine.
XD the ONLY people who use terms like "lgbtq woke stuff" are people who are extremely bigotted and refuse to just allow people to have basic rights
BUT this isn't about that at all.
I just tend not to care about gender at all when I'm shipping characters. I've been doing shipping like this with pony stuff for years. It's really fun to think about their dynamics.
Don't matter to me if I draw, say, fluttershy with a stallion or a mare.
Kinda just takes on Sims logic. Assume everyone is pan and let shipping flow XD
The different dynamics characters can take on with different types of relationships are always so fascinating to me and fun to explore.
I ALSO love the dynamic of tangle and whisper as friends.
But the most important part of their relationship regardless of if it's platonic or romantic, is because of the fact that whisper has a strong from of social anxiety and does not like others being in her personal space, doesn't like to raise her voice, etc.
(There's nothing wrong with that, people are just like that sometimes, they're not broken. I love that the characters in the comics, even very brash characters like Tangle or Sonic are respectful of whisper's boundries.)
But for someone who has traits like Whisper does, it's up to that person to decide *when* they have the comfort and trust to let someone in to their bubble. That's something I relate to prsonally very well.
And the most important part of Tangle & Whisper's friendship is that over the course of their adventures, Tangle becomes Whisper's safe place.
I can say from personal experience how it feels when, as someone who usually pushes people away, to have that person that you just want to have close to you because they make you feel safe.
We can see examples of this in how Whisper will willingly enter Tangle's personal space (and thus have Tangle in hers). She trusts and feels safe enough with Tangle to let her in her personal space by not that long into the comic series.
Not to mention how the only time Whisper ever raises her voice is screaming her lungs out when she thinks she's lost Tangle.
This is just a very solid and beautiful safe relationship even just from a platonic standpoint, but it makes an incredibly warm and cute basis for a romantic relationship too, optionally.
I decided I like that option XD
