So the fall season is going to start soon where I live, I can just feel it already! And what comes with the fall is the Santa Ana winds that blow HARD CORE through my town because it's a 'wind tunnel' (seriously, they've blown down fences and taken out children.)
Ironically, that's what gave me inspiration to create this picture. Mouse doesn't like the cold, she usually hunkers down in a thick nest with lots of blankets, pillows, hot pockets, chocolate milk, and video games, but not this year! She packed up her backpack, grabbed her trusty lantern and hit the road traveling south for the winter. Sometimes Mouse scampers here and there, but when she needs to travel longer distances that would take forever to cover by foot she'll think up different modes of transportation. Like the tree seed pod branch you see in this picture.
The Santa Ana winds are completely capable of producing enough lift for a seed pod branch with Mouse hanging on! So it's so long blistery, cold winter California, and helloooo steamy, hot Bahia, Brazil!
I used three different stock photos for the background, two of which I picked up from Stock.xchng. The third picture I actually made myself from blue watercolors to create the watercolor texture; I picked blue cause it's actually a more natural color for light then yellow or white. With a few layer blending options and Photoshop filters I was able to get the watercolors to blend well with the other stock photos, not to mention the colors I added to enhance the sky and landscape.
I used a brush or two to create the wind swirls, and the text on the picture says:
"The wind welcomes you with open arms, southbound, to ferry your dreams beyond the horizon."
I added that while listening to For Lise, by Suzanne Ciani. It's a really pretty melody, and it lifts the image with a vagabond spirit. <3
I have a really large, high res file of this image that I'm kinda tempted to upload it as a print, but I'm not completely sure if I wanna or not.
