It's so amazing to get a commission from Evan Stanley. I always dreamed of a Sonic the Hedgehog pro wrestling game or comic scene, and I never thought I'd get a commission slot from Evan of IDW comics.
*Klik, klak, klik, klak, klik* echoed in the hallway.
A pink hedgehog named Amy moved closer to a black curtain. She extended her arms and poked her head through it. She spotted the wrestling ring in the arena’s center but only for a second. She looked up and her eyes widened when seeing every row filled to capacity with several guests in each seat. All she could hear was,
“Start the match! Start the match!”
Amy breathed deeply in and out. She didn’t anticipate a sold out event but was grateful that the revenue would go to a worthy cause.
The metal virus nearly ended the world and everyone’s lives. She could not erase the physical and emotional damage. However, she worked diligently with her friends to rebuild and help all in need. Although repairs were underway without fault, Amy noticed how many were not over the outbreak. She saw how volunteers had difficulty repairing without reliving the metal virus. She was also flooded with messages about costs for repairs. Homes, businesses, hospitals….Amy thought it’d take a miracle to rebuild Mobius. While observing repairs in a village, Amy saw some kids run past her pretending to be Sonic and Shadow while others watched them. She smiled at their game assured that the metal virus didn’t destroy their innocence.
“HA HA! I won Shadow! No one can outrun Sonic!” Said the young wolf imitating Sonic while standing and moving his thumb towards his chest.
“Heh, may be this time but let’s see you outrun a chaos spear!” Said the young otter standing next to him. The young otter clenched his fingers, raised his right arm, and moved it down with his palm across the young wolf’s face.
“HA! You’re too slow!” Said the young wolf jumping to his right side and grinned at his friend.
“Oh come on I got you Brian.” Said the young otter.
“Nuh-uh, Sonic is too fast for Shadow’s chaos spear!” Said the young wolf.
“Oh yeah? How about his spin dash?” Said the young otter as he bent down, pushed his hands on the ground, then somersaulted forward to his friend.
“Whoa!” Said the young wolf as he pretended to fall backwards on the ground.
“Now try my spin dash attack!” Said the young wolf as he imitated his friend’s previous move.
“I’ll get you now.” Said the Otter as he was getting back up from his exaggerated fall.
The other kids cheered for one or the other while the wolf and otter pretended to fight each other. Amy thought of intervening before they hurt themselves, but they weren’t attempting anything dangerous. Eventually, the two kids laid on the ground and started laughing.
“Oh, wouldn’t it be cool to see Sonic and Shadow fight?” Said the young wolf turning his head toward his friend.
“That would be cool…hey may be even in a stage.” Said the young otter turning his head toward his friend.
“A stage…aren’t those for concerts or plays?” Said the young robin who was one of the kids watching them.
The other kids nodded their heads until the young ape mentioned “But what if it were in a wrestling ring…those are in stages right?”
“I think they’re called arenas.” Said the young owl who was standing next to the young robin.
“But I don’t want to see Sonic or Shadow get hurt” said the young kangaroo who was also with them.
“If it were a wrestling ring, they’d rehearse everything before the show to make sure no one got hurt. My dad said it’s like rehearsing for a play.” Said the young otter.
Amy couldn’t help overhearing their conversation. They asked each other about their wrestling theme music, costumes, and finishing moves. Amy saw their excitement just talking about it.
“I wish we could see a wrestling match with Sonic and Shadow with my dad…” Said the young wolf whose expression suddenly went sour. “…oh wait, he’s busy with repairing the village.”
“My mom has been trying to counsel any who got that virus…I hardly see her…” said the young otter. Soon, they looked down amongst themselves realizing their parents hardly spend time with them nowadays. Amy’s eyes widened and her mouth opened slightly. She hadn’t realized that the repairs took time away from parents to spend with their children. Unbeknownst to her were muffled sounds from a distance,
“…my…”
Sounds were getting louder and less muffled.
“Amy…Amy!”
“H-Huh?” Amy turned her head toward the older wolf standing next to her.
“I asked if you could look over the new layout for the village.” Said the wolf holding blueprints in his right hand.
“Oh….right, let me see.” Said Amy walking closer to the wolf who started to unfold the blueprints.
The next day was a clear blue sky with the sun shining and a calm breeze. Suddenly, the bushes and foliage suddenly blew the opposite direction followed by a blue blur on the dirt path. On a hill from a long distance was Amy holding a clipboard around her arm. She took a few steps back, moved her arm up and covered her eyes when she felt a strong wind coming close to her. Suddenly, the wind stopped. Amy moved her arm away and opened her eyes. She saw the blue hedgehog in front of her tossing a chili dog up with his right hand.
“Hey Amy” said Sonic right before the chili dog landed on his right hand. He took a quick bite.
“Sonic…I’m glad you came to see me.” Said Amy while moving both hands closer together and walking closer to him.
“I always have a second to spare” said Sonic after finishing his chili dog.
As soon as Amy got close to Sonic, she explained her idea for Mobius. She mentioned the children from yesterday though Sonic tilted his head and thought about it.
“Sounds quite a spectacle…”
Amy showed concern on her face wondering if Sonic would accept. Sonic quickly gave a thumbs up and winked. Amy immediately smiled.
A few days passed until Shadow arrived at the village answering a call from Amy. Shadow didn’t expect Sonic with her. He crossed his arms and maintained his demeanor while explaining her idea.
“T’ch, do I look like a performer to you?” Said Shadow.
“Well you look more like…” said Sonic but Amy managed to interrupt him before he’d say something to upset Shadow by moving her hand in front of Sonic’s face.
“I know this is sudden” said Amy moving her arm away from Sonic.
“But I believe this is a great opportunity for everyone in Mobius to come together and take their minds off of what happened.”
Shadow looked away briefly remembering how he contracted the metal virus. He looked back at Amy and said “Get someone else to do it.”
Amy immediately responded taking a step forward “But a lot of kids want to see you and Sonic.”
“I have other things to do.” Said Shadow as he moved his arms away from his chest, turned around and walked away. Amy was about to respond until Sonic interrupted her this time by walking closer to Shadow before Amy.
“No worries Amy, I can ask Knuckles or Tails.” Said Sonic stopping, then moving his right hand in front of him while his left arm was adjacent to his side. “I figured Shadow wouldn’t keep up with me.”
Shadow immediately stopped and widened his eyes. He turned his head back and looked at Sonic “What was that…?”
Sonic crossed his arms and said “Everyone in Mobius knows that I’m not only faster but stronger.” Immediately flexing his right bicep.
“Heh” said Shadow turning closer to Sonic. “I’d run circles around you before pounding you.”
Sonic moved his right arm down and responded with “The only thing you’ll pound is the canvas…but you would be faster than me…” Both Amy and Shadow were taken aback by that remark.
“…tapping the mat.” Amy moved her right palm to her mouth while any could easily see the anger in Shadow’s face. Shadow stared at Sonic, then looked at Amy.
“Send me the date and time.” Said Shadow. Amy stared at Shadow only to hear another faint voice
“y….my….Amy!” Said a familiar voice.
“W-what?” Said Amy as she looked behind her. Sonic stood there prepared for the event.
“Are you going to stand there all day or are we going on with the show?” Said Sonic.
Amy smiled and moved away from the curtains.
In the center of the ring stood an ape in a tuxedo waiting for the mic to lower closer to him. The ape grabbed the mic and moved it towards his mouth.
“Welcome everyone to the once in a lifetime event at Mobiuuuuuus!” The crowd erupted with cheers with some standing up and holding signs up high for their favorite hedgehog. The cheers suddenly stopped when the arena went dark. They heard a guitar riff and a drum beat of what would be described as hard rock. Behind the curtain stood Shadow the Hedgehog wearing an outfit decked out in red and black, black sneakers as well as gloves covered in gold trimming. He turned his head towards Amy who gave him a thumbs up and smile. Shadow looked back and rolled his eyes wondering why he agreed to this in the first place.
As he walked towards the curtains, the lights already flashed red with smoke coming out of the ramp.
“I am all of me…I…I…I aaaaaaaammmm” could be heard throughout the arena. Through the smoke came Shadow the Hedgehog as he walked towards the ring.
“Introducing first…hailing from Space Colony Ark, standing at 3’ 3”, weighing in at 77 lbs., the Ultimate Lifeform…Shadowwwww the Hedgehog!!!”
Shadow jauntily walked down the entrance ramp toward the ring but suddenly pulled his arm away from someone who tried touching his hand. Shadow growled at the lemur and looked back at the ring when without warning…he vanished. The entire audience was in shock and looked around…even the announcer. The announcer suddenly fell backwards when he felt a presence in front of him. He sat himself up and noticed Shadow the Hedgehog standing in the center of the ring with his arms crossed against his chest.
“T’ch” said Shadow as he turned away from the announcer. The crowd erupted with mixes of cheers and boos. The announcer stood up, straightened his jacket and bow tie. He held the microphone close to his mouth.
“And his opponent…”
An upbeat tempo played with a guitar riff with the stage lights flashing blue, yellow and red across the arena.
“From right here in Mobius, he also stands at 3’ 3”, and also weighing in at 77 lbs….”
Suddenly, a gust of wind could be felt from the front row that stretched as far high as the bleachers with a blue blur surrounding the arena several times. The announcer momentarily stopping to remain still though the only one remaining still was Shadow the Hedgehog with his arms crossed against his chest not impressed at all.
“I can feel your every rage. Step aside, I’ll turn the page…” can be heard throughout the arena.
“H-H-He is…” as the announcer got himself upright again “the Blue Blur and Knight of the Wind…Sonic Theee Hedgehog!”
Suddenly, pyro and fireworks erupted from the entrance ramp and Sonic was seen jumping in the air with his arms raised at the same time everyone heard,
“Sonic Herroooooes….Sonic Heeeerrrooooooes…Setting the stage for a hero’s parrrrraaaade!”
The entire arena cheered in unison for their hero wearing a white jacket, red boots, red fingerless gloves, and tassels in red, yellow and blue leaping in the air. Sonic was about to walk closer to the ring until the announcer got pushed aside by Shadow. Shadow grabbed a mic and said…
“Enough stalling blue faker…come and meet your maker” said Shadow as he raised his left palm and curled his fingers.
Sonic thought to himself how Shadow said he wasn’t a performer…. Sonic responded with “Someone’s in a rush to eat my dust.”
Sonic immediately ran and jumped in the air. He landed on the top rope gracefully, bent his knees, and jumped again aiming a high kick at Shadow who already ducked under raising his own legs about to deliver his own attack. The crowd was on the edge of their seats waiting to see what would happen and then…
