The young shepherd appeared in the courtyard to Kaleb's tower one winter afternoon. Kaleb walked out to see what was happening, and noticed his strange mechanical attire and the sparks of blue light around him.

"What is happening?" he asked of the strange dog.

The other dog looked up, nervous. "I'm so sorry sir, my time travel talisaman is malfunctioning, and I'm trying to get it to work."

"Why were you doing that?" Kaleb asked.

"I, uh..." the dog started, as if trying to come up with a lie. After a moment he blurted something out, muzzle pointed away from Kaleb. "My grandfather died and I was trying to visit him when he was younger-" the armored dog said, averting his eyes. In a moment, Kaleb noticed his markings and put two and two together.

"Well why don't you come in out of the cold for a moment," Kaleb said, pretending he didn't catch on.
