Ayanna was born into a small pride of shamans protected by the Emperor. She learned to commune with the spirits, preform birth, death and mating rites, and to heal along with her sisters. But what was promised to be a tranquil life, quickly became undone.

When a large clan of hyenas attacked her pride, she was the only one to escape.

Ayanna fled into the jungle where she met a lone male lion. She healed his wounds and he showed her where to hunt and find shelter. For a while, the two stayed together and became familiar. Occasionally her companion would disappear for days at a time, and she learned to think nothing of it.

Until one day, he returns with the leader of the clan that killed her pride.
