I live in Jacksonville, Florida. They're pretty common in the brackish rivers and lakes by the beach. I was actually catching a lot of them for a while and throwing them back because I thought they were toxic to eat. Apparently not, though. So I guess I'll keep and eat the next one. Then at least I'd get my tackle back. XD
Oh man! That happens all the time offshore, especially during the fall months. My boyfriend and I were fishing on Mickler Beach once when we actually saw a 4-5 foot shark swimming in the water right in front of us. o.o He tried to catch it... XD Didn't get that one, but later wound up with a 22 inch hammerhead.
Stingrays, too. I didn't know you could eat those either, so I kept throwing those back. lol. I kept a stinger from a dead one I found.

the one i saw was a hammerhead and about...3 ft. lol i thought it was pretty amazin, dont see those everyday muchless pet em. kinda sucked cos he was all bloody n hurt from the lure -_-. everyones tellin teh guy 'CHOP EM UP FOR BAIT OR HE'D MAKE A LOVELY SOUP. awe i only saw one stingray on our trip. how do u cook up a stingray?
Yeah, a lot of the sharks do die. D: Fortunately the ones out there are at least not endangered or anything.
I guess you cook stingray like any other fish, whether it's fresh or saltwater stingray. Just bake them or bread and fry them. I've never had it. I would think they'd offer it in restaurants in this area. They have other weird stuff here like fried alligator and snake.
