Don't make eye contact, keep looking down. People are grumpy this time of year and don't like bumping into others this time of year, especially on the street. But you never know, it's Christmas day after all. The season of kindness and giving. Perhaps someone will notice you, perhaps they'll take you in, give you a snack, a warm place to sleep out of the snow and cold.

But they won't. Because people like to talk about the spirit of giving, but they never give. They will sit at home full and warm and watch their Christmas movies about kindness and gifts while you stand out in the cold. Because you are some stinky, criminal homeless person. Someone should help you, or at least make you go somewhere else, but they are too busy and untrusting. So they pass you by. It will be a cod Christmas, but you don't notice the date. There's nowhere to put a tree and nobody to give you presents. It will be a night like any other, like all the many nights to come. But at least the shop decorations look nice.

It's cold and he wants to make a fire, but all he knows how to make is pie. He shivers as he molds an apple pie out of snow.
