100 Theme Challenge: Series 1-5
It begins.
Here is series one of my 100 Theme challenge pieces. Some of these are obvious, some are not, and all of them are gestural sketches only! When all 100 are done, I will come back and select those I like most to make into final illos.
In the meantime, enjoy my sketchy madness!
All of these images are shown full-scale in my Scraps directory, if you are so-inclined:

There are several versions of this challenge going around, and they all use different words. The idea behind the challenge is that a list of 100 words and/or phrases (i.e. "themes") is created. Participants then use the list as a source of inspiration for 100 matching illustrations. It's really nothing more than a friendly, competitive way for willing friends to hone their skills and break out of any creative ruts.
Number 4 has a lot of potential to be bad. It would indeed be very difficult to attend someone else's child in the wee hours of the morning when you're dead tired and have absoutely no idea why the child is screaming. But then, the parents who also face the same problems, but night after night after night and there doesn't seem to be any end to it and your sleep-debt is just climbing. It doesn't take long before your literally so sleep-deprived that you just cry.
...But! This is only a phase. With Kyleigh, it lasted 3 months. With Aidan, it seems to be going away already at 5 weeks. Every child is different, and it really comes down to how patient the caregiver is, and how willing that person is to understand what's wrong and problem solve. Babies never cry without reason, and usually it's pain.
It's tough! But worth every sleepless night.

It's awesome to see someone else doing the challenge as well! I'll be watching you to see how you do the themes too!
