I've been working on this for just shy of a month now, and while there's still a lot of work that needs doing, I figured, hey - I haven't been doing much drawing, and I'm sure I'm not the only person who's super into this, so why not share what I've got now?
I've been working on a model replacement for Breath of the Wild that replaces Link with... well, a Rito version of him (based off of Harth's model)! You can find the download [HERE], as well as in the description of the video linked above. It's available in both the .bnp format, for use with the BoTW Cross-Platform Mod Loader (https://gamebanana.com/tools/6849), as well as a standalone (but much larger - this is just because of how the game works) version for use on its own. Note that the standalone version will almost certainly have conflicts with other mods - it's just there as an option for people (like me) who just want to play the regular game, but as a bird.
This mod is currently Switch-only, I'm afraid. I don't have a copy of the Wii U version on-hand to develop/test for, so for the time being there's no Wii U version.
I wanted to draw something to go alongside this, hence this picture of Rito Link. The design I've gone with here is partially based off of/takes cues from
Yufuria's Rito Link design, as drawn by
TattooRexy, which can be seen here. I'd like to thank the two of them for both the original design, which is part of what inspired this, and for allowing me to use it as reference in creating this mod.
I'd also like to thank the folks in the BoTW Modding Discord for assistance with all the silly, strange issues I've run into so far. This has been a trial by fire for me - especially when it comes to rigging and weighting models to get them ready for animation - and while there are still some rough edges that need fixing, I'm very happy with the results so far.
I've included a readme with the standalone version (since BCML's pretty self-explanatory, I think - and, in all honestly, I'm still not all that familiar with it myself) that describes how to install the mod, both for Yuzu and for a Switch running the Atmosphere firmware. If anyone has any issues with getting things working despite that, I'll try and do what I can to help, but I'm not sure if I can promise anything.
Regardless! Here's to 2022 being a better year, huh? Or at least, one with more Rito. That's always good.

Mods and I don't ever seem to work out, but I so wish I could with this one! I loved the video you made to show off the mod! Link makes a fantastic Rito! Were you able to update the memories too with this? I'd love to see more playthrough videos with this mod.
I love the animations you've got for him. The beak looks fantastic, and of course his wing arms, tail feathers, and Rito talons are done very, very well. Everything you showed looks seamless and makes it look like the game was meant to be played as a Rito (except for the paraglider but not much anyone can do there). Only thing I'd have changed in the design is Rito feathers on the head instead of the Hylian hair. Everything else is amazing!
