Here is a trowel I made for an upcoming project in the spring time.
I made this trowel from a section of lawn mower blade.
The tang (end that is inserted into the handle) was made by pinching the rectangular workpiece at the end while it's hot, this is called fullering.
When the mass is isolated from the larger piece, it can be drawn out into a thin tang.
The lawn mower blade was a bit too thick, so I had to hammer it thinner so the material stretched outward.
While it was still hot, I took a chisel to cut off some excess material before I forged the point of the trowel.
The tang was bent and the handle was started by using the heat of the tang to burn a hole into the wood. No need for drilling there.
