Aaand here's what I started it off with! I wanted to go with a character concept that was simple at it's core, but with lots of small details that could easily be lost along the way. I also wanted to combine a couple of kinda... unrelated core concepts to broaden the theming out.
As such, I settled on 'Lumberjack Gargoyle'. I'd always wanted to draw a Gargoyle, whilst making them a lumberjack was both a juxtaposition and I felt was something of a character concept I'd not normally depict.
Details-wise I went with the idea of damages - having lost a horn, a snapped support on the dungarees, a torn shirt arm, and splattered mud. I thought focusing them all on one side might help people remember, so some of it would carry through - but also wanted there to be enough little things that perhaps it could change throughout.
