Because, simply put, the average 'housecat' is still quite wild. Just too small to do much about it. Your average housecat still has many of the same wild instincts, they just don't mind (and welcome) the presence of humans. A lynx raised from a kitten by humans will have the same exact welcoming attitude towards human contact, they are just much larger. So the only real concern then is that they actually have the size to follow with certain instincts. For example, when they play attack on your feet under the covers... they can actually do some damage. Or when they decide they want to 'mark' something.
Or, if you can imagine, making a sandwich at the kitchen counter, turning to get something from the fridge, turning back and finding a feline nose-to-nose with you, with the attitude of 'make some for me?'... without ever making a single sound jumping up on the counter, because of those large paws and general silent motions of a feline.
So yea... as long as you know what comes with it... do want in deed.
