One of my first assignments this year at school was to paint a realistically lighted animal-human hybrid. I drew SO many preliminary bird people in preparation for this...it was difficult to choose. It came down to a lammergeier, a kori bustard, and a horned owl, but the lammergeier won out due to the value contrast on the figure.
Hmmmmmdon't usually paint, but the process wasn't nearly as maddening when I used illustration board. Maybe I'll try it again in the future! The background looks like ass, but I ran out of time. :c
MEDIA: acrylics on illustration board, 9x12"

"Our country in rubble!"
"Our ambassy closed!"
"Beards being shaved off!"
"Women! Going naked!"
"But... Still we will join the government!"
"The Taliban will JOIN the government? But... don't you have to make concessions?"
"We do!"
"But we only claim one ministry! The one of nature!"
"As reccomended by our Dutch advisor!"
"Our ministry will do everything in its power for the protection of our new symbol: The beared vulture"
"...The only bird with a beard like the prophet Mohammed!"
"Good job guys"
If it only would be true... XD

YAY. The acrylic fan in me rejoices. I'll be honest, I first thought it was pencil, but consider that a compliment to your wonderful detail.
That lighting is so intense, too, very fitting for an intense expression. Who wouldn't be, if they were covered in feathers? For someone who doesn't normally paint, you exhibit a lot of solid skills. C:
