My art summary of 2021! Much like any proper awards ceremony, I pick out the art that truly has something to say, and not just glorified miniaturized theme-park rides and sideshows. So what do I think is the best I've done this year?
January: The Lycan
Me drawing vehicles is always a real treat, and even though Starwolf of the Starfox games may be one of the most boring and rote anti-heroes written, at least the starship looks cool.
February: The Slenderman
One of the internet's favorite monsters reimagined in my style!
March: Dino n' Fish
We needed some wholesome girl love and some decent Undertale fanart. This brought the best of two worlds together.
April: Thinn Hippo And Wimpy Wolf
Thinn Hippo may be the only character I've created so far that actually feels like a unique, original concept. Too bad I couldn't do anything with Wimpy Wolf, but to be honest, even a pathetic wolf character is still a dime a dozen as wolves remain the most cliche and overrated animal to exist.
May: Shegas, Friend of the Tower
If pushing boundaries and doing things a bit out of my comfort zone is what makes you a better artist, then this would be a good testament to that. This is what happens when you take the elements of a Blizzard character and ask me to make something completely new with it.
June: A Very Accurate Observation
While technically not that great and a typical "ugly medicore white dude is sad" type picture, it does capture my feelings about staying committed to anything really. This showcase is proof!
July: Be Not Afraid
Biblically accurate angels are always a real treat when drawn, and the attempt to fuse the natural with the divine was truly worth experimenting with. Maybe I should do more angelic abominations in the future?
August: Like A Pumpkin On My Head
One of the few pieces of many Krystal fan arts I did that wasn't just utter garbage. Also it features my first attempt at drawing one of the most beloved birds ever!
September: Leroy And Pat
Another picture that isn't technically as good as some of the other stuff I did, but never less captures the cartoony nature of my pet birds.
October: A Picture of Two Worlds
October, being the crappy month it is, usually never has much good art. But the picture that allows people to peer into either a South Pacific paradise dotted with pagodas and glistening resorts or a haunting cartoon city is a welcome sight between all the stereotypical horror art everyone produces this month.
November: Fire Fingers
November was a slow month, and thus the only the picture really worth mentioning was pretty vapid. But it's the technical skill that counts, as well as the attention to lighting.
December: Dazzling Ice Orb
A piece that truly tries to capture the worlds and people I want to tell stories about. Sure, it's just a heavily modified property that isn't mine, but the general idea of portraying powerful and competent people who don't have typical "heroic" figures has been one of my goals for a while now.
And there you have it, my art summary of 2021!
