Rigby Reference 2021-2022 (WIP)
Late night post, since I know everyone's up now!
Okay, last image(s) for 2021 with my old art! Ready for a new year with new art! Just got to get my tablet cords.
It's been a pretty plentiful year for me, outside of the multiple months I couldn't work. 🙃
I did get more work done and I've definitely improved. I look back at my old art and I can't believe I progressed past that stage. The years where I could only draw my characters wearing a fullbody suit like Home Movies. The years where my characters looked like a five-year-old drew them even though I was a teenager. This year with my art and redesign for Rigby being kinda... uh... yeah. Well, at least THIS redesign is good!
The ref is a wip because I keep being indecisive about if this version of Rig can transform or not. There's another version, but I'm worried FA will get pissed. It's not worth it.
Human!Rigby's new ref! Kinda! Sorta! It's still a work in progress, because I always want to add more.
I completely overhauled his abysmal old design. How did I even think that looked good?? So, he's based on a mixture of my current look and well... wish fulfillment. I wish I was this handsome... 😭
His hair color is based on real... weave... that you can buy. I'm not sure if it'll look good on me in real life, but I love it! I bought a bunch that was brown and caramel, but for some reason it looked bad on him. ☹
He has sharp piranha teeth because I saw a few anime characters with them and said "I want to see more characters with these". The fact he may or may not be a Yokai doesn't help.
He shaved his face. He can still grow facial hair, but tends to enjoy having a smooth look more (this is extended to all his human forms, by the way).
He has a new outfit! I for the life of me can't find the site again and I lost the ref for it somewhere. I believe it was Blogger? Which has viruses, by the way. Never going back. I can't remember what it was for? I just thought the outfit was cute. Dammit, what did I look up to find it?! 🤬
Anyway, I believe it was a bunch of practice outfits? This one fit him and was cute, so I took it. It's mine now. 😈 I changed the color of the jacket, though. I'm thinking of adding a heart to the shirt and making the pants more... flashy? Something to spice it up a little. Maybe not. They're hard to draw already. Also, because I feel bad? It's a generic outfit, but I feel bad for using it? ...I could totally find this in Forever 21 or Rue 21, bet. The fluffy ruffle reminds me of Kaeya. Who is actually one of his crushes down there! I'll add more later! 🥰
Same old Converses- I mean, "high tops" he always wears. Still got the paw pad design on the soles, too. He just looks good in them.
I had to find SIX REFS to draw the pants. I still used the most simple one. I never realized how hard drawing jeans was. I'm getting better, though!
Those Deka, Raisin, Kohachi Backpack, the headshots, and the two animal forms were all made for this ref sheet! Surprise! This is what it lead up to!
Speaking of the headshots... those were Digitized sketches like the Poodle down there! The fifth one underneath was drawn completely digitally, so it has thin outlines like the rest of the art.
Phew! Okay, that's a lot out of me, so I'm going to end the dialogue here. Since this isn't the finished one, I'm not going into detail yet. Just wanted to point out the updates!
