Urusei Yatsura 2: Remember Your Promise π½π
Hey all,
I got this piece done by Moorph a while back and upon hearing about the newly announced Urusei Yatsura revival, I decided both to finally color this in and write a little story I've had brewing in my head about this pic.
The story focuses on Jariten, Lum's cousin who had left Earth after Lum and Ataru officially settled down and got married. He's gotten older and all of his worst traits from when he was a baby have gotten worse, such as his cocky attitude and hot-headedness.
Still, given that he is finally of age, he is officially announced to be bethrothed, to an absolute bombshell of an alien princess to booth! Jariten is all too happy to accept the arrangement, but when a divining ceremony is held on his fiancΓ©'s planet, he is shocked to have it revealed that he is already bethrothed to another girl!
The ceremony reveals that he when he was a child under Lum's care, he had a brief pretend relationship with a little Earth girl named Mako. Jariten hastily explains that it was all child's play and that he hasn't even seen that girl in years. However, according to his fiancΓ©'s culture, he must have official closure of the relationship with Mako in order for his new engagement to be made official.
Jariten wastes no time making his way to Earth, staying with his cousin Lum and her husband Ataru while he tries to sort out this mess. He eventually finds Mako and is surprised to find she has grown into a surprising cute young lady. However, she is revealed to have an immature personality, teasing Jariten about still wearing diapers, which he doesn't understand since he's always worn them and his culture doesn't think wearing the garment out of infancy is a big deal.
After teasing Jariten and making him embarrass himself for her entertainment, Mako seems willing to finally officially relinquish the betrothment so that Jariten can return to his new fiancΓ©. However, before she can do so some alien thugs crash land on Earth.
They are revealed to be arsonists that Jariten's mother had put away due to their criminal ways. While they still actively fear his mother, given that Earth is so far away from her and most of Jariten's race, they figure they can beat the snot out of him without too much interference.
While Mako is terrified to have found herself in the middle of the conflict, to her surprise Jariten eagerly accepts the space thugs' challenge. With unparalleled speed and ferocity, he tears into the aliens, brawling like a proper thug and even unleashing his trademark fire breath to devastating effect.
After making short work of the thugs, Jariten then approaches Mako once more, eagerly waiting for her to continue to dissolve their bethrothment. However, Mako changes her mind to Jariten's shock, claiming he's cooler than she thought and that she'll need more time to decide.
Jariten is furious at this turn of events, but because he can't force her to change her mind, he's stuck staying with Lum until he can convince Mako to annul their engagement. Jariten bemoans this new relationship forced upon him, since he doesn't see Mako as the type of girl he likes at all, viewing her as a whiny, childish crybaby who likes messing with him (she even wears diapers too, which annoys him considering she teased him for the very same thing).
Still, with all the misadventures that are bound to come their way, can Jariten convince Mako that they're all wrong for each other or will he be the one proven wrong in the end?
