The 100-Theme Challege - 1 - Introduction
The 100-Theme Challege - 1 - Introduction
Title: "Introduction"
Medium: Graphite on toned paper; digital
Description: Horribly cliche, but the most appropriate way to begin a project like this is to start with a self-portrait. But to give it some chaarcter, I've approached this piece from the second-person perspective. Since this is an "introduction" piece, I thought, "When I meet people for the first time, what is the most striking feature about me that they remember most?' It turns out that it's my hair and facial hair (it tends to be very symmetrical). So I drew myself as I would probably appear if someone else had to draw what they remember of me.
When the series of 100 pieces is complete, I'll revisit this piece and fill in all the details... kind'a as if you've been around for a long time, and now you know me better.

There are several versions of this challenge going around, and they all use different words. The idea behind the challenge is that a list of 100 words and/or phrases (i.e. "themes") is created. Participants then use the list as a source of inspiration for 100 matching illustrations. It's really nothing more than a friendly, competitive way for willing friends to hone their skills and break out of any creative ruts.
