Ah, it took me a while to finally get writing! It's sometimes difficult to wordify (see, already I have to resort to a word that doesn't exist!) thoughts on such grand things!
First of all, this is a beautifully melancholy scene, with nicely dulled colours, a great effect, makes everything look more sombre.
And again, kudos to how you place your backgrounds, always guiding my eyes to the most important point, this time the ship of course. And the plume gracefully takes you to the wife and daughter, who even if rather small really do look so full of emotion! The girl hugging her mother, with one eye glinting at her father and her mother with that look of 'will we be safe, how shall lady fortune treat us in future?"

Ah, an absolutely great scene, pulled off with some rather awesome technique~
