Plot twist: The machine can sense a person's true fursona species and changes them accordingly into a feral version with their human mind intact, though only able to mate with those of their new species. Even now, it is hacking into manufacturing facility mainframes to spread more of itself across the world and bring humans to extinction via conversion into their feral selves. A Terminator, yes, but a "mostly' benign one.
