A sketch I forgot about over a year ago.
Crashing her tush into a cafe for a coffee, Thexx fought off dreariness and the pain of the overwhelming dawn sun. Kicking this most recent bout of opioid withdrawal, an addiction that had been coming and going for a handful of years now, had lead her to start taking bigger risks to make a quick buck. She seemed to be good behind the wheel. Getaway driver, border runner, wheel(wo?)man, and now a street racer making wagers.
She compared it to her old life. Taking whatever job she could, never finding a career, making the most meager of wages, even ending up in jail a few times. Framed by her boss for stealing convenient store earnings, assaulting a robber with bleach and a cordless drill, and ending up on the wrong side of a night stick from a drunk cop who needed to work off steam for when he found out his husband was cheating on him.
But now that Thexx was actually going out of the way to break the law, she felt untouchable. Blowing past patrol cars, shunting off pit maneuvers, even baiting pursuers into their own spike strips. Only when she went out to be the aggressor did she end up spotless. And not just the pay, but the thrill of it kept her going. She gave up her job entirely, instead running around each night, and throwing her money back into her car, making it better at her new career.
Thexx finished her coffee, went home, popped some pills and went to sleep on her couch bed. That night she planned to head to a parking garage where she could meet some serious competition. Only thing she heard was that they didn't just wager in cash. She wondered what they meant by that.
