Kickback Resolutions (PMD TF Story)
This story is technically a spin-off from "The Formation of Team Wyverns" as it includes the same characters from me and
Safenritharnix however, I think it's more a start of a series that has more potential stories in the future!
RegularTF drew up a comic and this cover for this story, this was a collaboration and I would highly recommend checking out their art!
The comic as of right now is in the works, and that will be posted on
RegularTF when it is ready to go!
As always I appreciate any and all feedback ^_^! Let's get to the story now shall we?

In a world where pokemon are able to communicate with each other just like humans on earth. A rather peaceful life has been present in most areas for quite some time. Near a rather thriving villager lies a mostly secluded forest that the villagers deemed calling it Apple Blossom Forest. Mainly due to the abundance of trees of the same name thriving in the forest. Though to most villagers, rumors are being spread around that inside the forest has a poisonous berry disguised as a regular berry. This was causing a rather massive epidemic in the village. Where most of the villagers were essentially eating poisoned food. Which led to most of them having to stay home and recover from the poison, they weren’t entirely sure if it was lethal or not. However, it seemed that poison type pokemon were immune to this poison of sorts.
Given that most of the Pokemon were either trying to nurse the sickly, or sick themselves it was left to a very small few to actually make sure the village had enough to actually work. Most of the healthy pokemon at the very moment were either lucky enough to have not been inflicted by the poison, or were poison types as mentioned earlier. Most of whom were actually trying to take advantage of the situation by selling medicines at premium prices.
One of whom appeared to be rather suspicious of the whole ordeal was making his way towards Apple Blossom Forest to check out if these rumors had any sort of evidence behind them. Especially since he was asked to fetch some Pecha berries who offered to pay for them. But due to how strung out he’s seen some people’s Poké (The currency of this world.) He volunteered to fly into the forest without any compensation, they were always one for the good of the general public instead of profits for himself.
The fellow in question was a Gliscor called Vesper who previously worked with a rather esteemed exploration group Team Silent Stingers. The group was composed of Poison types who went out and arrested criminals silently for a rather healthy amount of living. However, they seemed to have changed their goals to helping the villagers with staying healthy. Which in itself was fine, but he was fully against taking payment over such things. The village gave them a home, why try to exploit their generosity when the opportunity arises?
Vesper in fact was so against this, he left the team in city square in most of the public, which incidentally caused most of the village to go into a state of uncertainty. They were the only well known exploration team around to keep their economy and relations with other villages miles and miles away strong. One leaving for such an odd reason couldn’t be true right? The recourse for this, was mainly that Vesper was left to have to fend for himself because no one in their right mind would believe his side of the story now. The village has placed too much trust into the reputable Team Silent Stingers to heed an ex member’s advice.
Since that event a week has passed, and the situation has only gotten worse in the village. Even if the poison itself wasn’t lethal, it was really making it hard to keep the structure of normalcy in the area. Luckily there have been traders coming in and out to help with resources, but Team Silent Stingers and Vesper have been doing most of the heavy lifting.
Vesper has been flying (really levitating) in and out of Apple Blossom fetching different kinds of berries in the hopes he could find something to cure the illness. He’s found that a few of them work together quite well to cure it, however, for some reason the person would become sick again in a few days. He was sure that maybe the berries in the forest were somehow contaminated in some way, and they needed to find a better source of food. However, he was taking one last flight into the forest for a request made by a pair of Pikachu. “Stay safe, I’ll be back in a few hours.” He would announce to the pair before heading into the depths of the forest.
Amidst Apple Blossom Forest, it was around middle afternoon by this point in time. Trees were being brushed lightly by the wind. Vesper was surveying the area for any signs of the berries he was tasked with gathering for the day. If these also turned out to be poisoned he would attempt to find another forest or maybe even a different mystery dungeon to go around to find less troublesome sources. However, as he was trying to find his way around the mystery dungeon that for some insane reason likes to switch itself up every time someone enters the area. It would seem something has entered the forest due the sudden change of the dungeon. “Who could have entered this place? Ugh I really hope it wasn’t those traitors.” Vesper would mumble to himself before being blinded by a rather short lasting beam of light a few miles away from him. “Is someone fighting? I know there’s wild Pokemon in here, but usually this forest is peaceful for the most part..” Concerned for the wellbeing of whoever was the cause of that light, he began to glide down towards the source.
From that beam of light that shot up to the sky, came two humans that were unconscious on detritus in the middle of the mystery dungeon. Something that hasn’t occurred in a few millenniums. The last time this occurred, a human was tasked to save the world from a deranged and insane space god. Though these are just spread as rumors at point, nobody has conclusive evidence this ever occurred due to the manipulation of time gears that sometimes changed historical patterns. Consequently, Vesper was not aware of the existence of humans outside the few things mentioned in folk tales.
Gusty winds would begin to stream near the two unconscious humans; prompting them to awake rather suddenly in a noticeably different location than they last recollected. The first of which to wake up would be a red headed male, who looked around the area rather perplexed given his clothes were covered in dirt and somewhat torn up. Looking over to his partner, he noticed the same thing has occurred to them as well. At least he wasn’t alone in this situation, which could have been a rather terrifying thought in and of itself. “Kota?!” The red head would call out to his Partner Kota before the sound of the voice ringing through Kota’s head would allow him to stir awake slowly. “S-Shad… come on you know I like my beauty sleep even when I’m cuddled up next to you..”
“This is serious! I know you aren’t quite awake yet, but we’ve somehow ended up in the middle of the forest!” Shadow would attempt to sit up, and survey the area around him. Luckily for them, the coast was clear and other than the trees in this world looking very slightly different than on earth where they came from. “Shad, I realize… I was just trying to not panic like you always do. I’m sure there’s some rational reason for all of this.” Kota would lightly sigh, sitting up before also taking in the scenery. “Though I will admit, I know we’re not both fond of being out in the wilderness. So, we should try to see if we have any phone signal and call for help.” Digging through his pockets, he found that there was nothing in them whatsoever. Then again, what were the chances of actually sleeping with your phone on you? The chances those things will break because you slept on the wrong side and smashing them with your body weight? Yeah, tough chance on that.
“Okay, don’t panic too much, let's just get up and start moving. There’s got to be a town or city around here let’s just get moving okay Shadow?” Kota would realize the air was noticeably cleaner than he was used to. The only thing that really came from it, was a literal breath of fresh air. That and Shadow sneezing from the rather copious amount of pollen and other things in nature triggering his allergies. “Ugh.. remind me next time we go into a forest to take some medicine. But you’re right we should probably get going, our clothes aren’t exactly in the best condition.” After a bit of a snicker from Kota, the pair would decide to head east. Seemingly in the same direction Vesper was heading… not to mention they already noticed them.
Never seeing a human in his life, Vesper was quite cautious with how to assess the situation. But he knew given their freak out, they shared the same emotions that Pokemon could. That knowledge itself was enough for him to take charge and take a detour to check on the pair of humans. Swooping in as carefully as possible not to scare the pair. Which, happened anyways despite any sort of intentions on the flying scorpions side. He couldn’t help that he looked rather scary to those not used to his presence! Shadow being his jumpy self, jumped back a bit taking a few seconds to realize that this was nowhere near a dream. There was a six foot tall gliscor right in front of the pair of lovers. “A-A Pokemon?! Y-You’re not here to hurt us are you?!” Shadow would jump back a few feet scared they were about to be attacked by a wild Pokemon.
Vesper sensing the fear in Shadow’s reactions, took initiative to land and try to show that he was not hostile. “Are you two… Humans?” Vesper would inquire, he was attempting to create conflict where that wasn’t needed at the very moment. Kota would slowly nod, shocked that there was a Pokemon in their presence, along with the fact that they were talking? Sure, he’s played the Pokemon Mystery Dungeon games, but surely this wasn’t where they ended up? “Yeah, are you perhaps a Gliscor? A Pokemon?” Kota would answer the question with a question.
After what seemed to be ten minutes of cautious banter about where they were and even what the pair was doing in the middle of the forest they really only got a few key answers by this point. Which in all honesty did not solve too much, Kota still had a few questions at this point. “So, you say there’s a whole village of Pokemon being poisoned by these berries? But they weren’t before?” Something was not adding up to him at all. “I thought it was weird too, but do you remember how you got here at all?” Vesper would ask curiously as he tried to wrap his head around the situation. “N-No, we don’t remember anything Vesper. I can’t remember a thing about what was happening before we got here.” Shadow would chime in, seeming a bit more anxious than the other two.
That response seemed genuine enough for the Gliscor to trust the humans in front of them. Though something about this was still off… they never actually “entered” the mystery dungeon they were seemingly teleported here. Vesper at least deduced that much, were they the only ones to enter the forest around this time? “Look, if we have any chance of getting you two back to where you came from we have to get out of this mystery dungeon. But first I do need to find some berries for some people. Maybe we can find something for you to eat here.” Vesper would give a bit of an offer, not like the pair of humans really had much of a choice they couldn’t defend themselves in this state. Most pokemon were as tall as they were and had powers no one could have ever dreamed of obtaining normally.
Admittedly the both of them were rather hungry given they weren’t able to make any food before heading to bed the night before. So going for something would probably be best, though he mentioned berries. Sure, humans ate them but surely they weren’t like the ones that they knew about. “Wait, Wait, Wait… Mystery Dungeon?” Something about that phrase would somewhat trigger a memory in both of them. They somewhat began to recognize where they must be right now. Though now the answer to their realization would not bear much fruit for a bit at least. They would look at each other rather confused, mentally asking themselves. ‘How did we get inside of a video game?’ Was it really that simple of a question? Vesper on the other hand looked back in utter confusion. “You two seem like you two saw a ghost or something after asking that.” Vesper seemingly tried to gather information as to why they were so freaked out and silent all of a sudden.
After a rather awkward period of silence, the trio stumbled upon two bushes that had two sets of berries on them. One being the Pecha berries Vesper was needing to grab, which he promptly grabbed a few knowing these couldn’t have been poisoned because they cure poison themselves naturally. Throwing them into a satchel he had around his neck he would look over to Shadow and Kota. “Well, you can take one of those Oran Berries, I can tell they aren’t poisoned, else they would have a different color and they are called Oren berries they actually harm anyone who eats one if you aren’t careful enough.” Vesper would chuckle a bit before handing the two a berry to eat. “We have to travel on a full stomach if I’m going to get you out of here without issue! So eat up!” He would give a bit of a chuckle, it was nice having people that could rely on him instead of being scared of his choices he made in the past week.He was taking a rather huge risk bringing humans to the village to find a way for them to get back home.
Shadow would look at the berry curiously, before giving it a bit of a taste, he would be a bit overwhelmed by the blend of flavors that came from the berry. Admittedly, he probably wouldn’t eat that again if he had to. Then again, maybe another bite wouldn’t hurt too much, maybe he was not used to it. Kota would have the same exact reaction leading to the both of them to come to enjoy the variety of tastes from the berry despite not really liking them on first bite. “Wow! That berry was amazing! Didn’t know so many flavors could be in a fruit!” Shadow would say rather excited, as he gave Kota a smile. Given their rather happy tone, everything seemed to be going rather well!
After a few more minutes of banter, spirits were heading upwards for the trio, that was before the two seemingly started to feel a bit odd? Was the berries in fact actually poisoned somehow? They both began to feel a bit weak on their knees so they sat down near a tree and breathed lightly. “Ugh.. I don’t know about you but I don’t feel so great…” Kota would hold his stomach for a few more moments. Holding Shadow’s hand a bit tightly, needing just a bit of comfort from the person he can confide in without any hesitation. Shadow offered his hand rather quickly, knowing somehow they felt the same in this.
While the pair was seemingly out of the running for a couple of minutes, Vesper would keep an eye out for any wild pokemon that could possibly attack them. “Now if anything comes along you do your best to hide you hear? You don’t have abilities like us Pokemon do. So if anyone comes along maybe sure you hide but close. I don’t think anyone else is going to protect you out here…” Vesper instructed them in a hushed whisper. Which seemed reasonable enough to Shadow and Kota, as they attempted to listen for anything around them. They were too focused on impending danger to notice that the hands they were holding shifted around a bit to get a better grip. Little did the two know they both only had three claws / talons each.
Shadow would be the one to have the claws, white pristinely colored ones to be exact. Was this because of the berries they consumed minutes ago? Surely it couldn’t have been that. It was just anxiety from being in a new place right? Holding onto his partner ever tighter, on the other hand his fingers would merge into three white claws like his other. Leaving for his arms to seemingly envelop in orange reptilian scales, all the while shorting a few feet? Kota would experience quite similar results to his partner, however, his hands would stretch out just a tad and become three green talons as well as his arms, not to mention his elbows grew three leaves on each.
It would only take a few moments for Vesper to look around and notice Shadow and Kota were somehow having different skin. Wait a minute, he recognized those skin tones, he could not put his finger on it at the very moment. But he was more surprised that humans were somehow metamorphosing? Was the berries somehow poisoned and forgot to check them, he knew he should have taste tested them first before giving those berries to them. That was before he was suddenly interrupted by the noise of rustling bushes, was there other pokemon around. “Stay low, I’ll investigate…” Vesper would give a bit of a hand motion to convey this as well. Not like they could do much while transforming into Pokemon themselves right?
From the rustling, Vesper would open a bush to find his old team standing near a berry bush. “What are they up to this time…” Vesper would narrow his eyes keeping a hushed tone to not be noticed. All the while, the two transforming humans were quickly becoming much shorter than they once were. Both shrinking down to roughly three feet tall each, Shadow only being slightly taller than his partner.
Team Silent Stingers were of course up to no good as Vesper as expected, but he never actually expected to see what he was currently witnessing. Roserade, their team leader, was poisoning the berries using Toxic (the move), while the others, a toxicroak and arbok, kept watch for anyone. Guess they really were behind this whole situation, and profiting from it all the same! Vesper wasn’t going to stand for this whatsoever, not after being tossed to the side a week ago by them. Were they really this despicable this whole time, and he was just wrapped around their fingers for so long?
Shaking his head, his internal anger would begin to get the better of him and gave a final look to the pair before making a bit of a ruckus. “Oh! So you were the crooks that decided to ditch me and poison the entire village for profit? Thought you were clever huh?” Vesper would give a rather cheeky smirk, hoping that his new allies would be able to get away without getting injured by this team of poisonous monsters. In doing so, Roserade would casually walk up closer to Vesper. “Oh and what can you do about it? You’re not even immune to the effects of poison.” The female would laugh quickly before jabbing Vesper with one of her flowered hands. Using Poison Jab, which did admittedly hurt the Gliscor. Pushing back a bit to get some space, he would hold where he was poisoned, and quickly feel a bit better. How was that possible? “Damn you got me pretty good, not like I just let you do that for no reason.” Vesper would give a smirk, before retaliating with a rather powerful acrobatics! Since his items were inside of his satchel he wasn’t technically holding any items, least in terms of “held” items in this world.
While this battle was occurring barely a few feet away from the pair, their changes were not stopping, they were rather accelerating given their friend was in danger and they knew it. “We gotta get out there and help him, you silly Lizard.” Kota would say a bit cheekily, while his stomach would get only slightly plumb, bright red scales would cover over his torso, covering his chin. Groaning just a tad, as his face would reshape into a longer and narrow skull, not to mention most of his facial features and hair were replaced with scales, except for a rather long leaf growing from the top of his head. Instead of being just all green, around it’s mid-point it began to turn a bright yellow. His eyes would sharpen, as would his eyesight. Kota’s sclera yellowed while his iris turned a midnight black. It would seem most of his transformation was over, though his feet were still left. Which would occur, as his clothes seemingly fell off of the pair, due to the shrinking. Next, his feet would extend out just a tad, as his toes merged into two separate talon-like claws. Then on the back of his foot grew the last talon, which completed his reformation into his new self. Not like, he would remember being human in a few minutes anyway along with his partner.
As for Shadow, the orange scales on arms would coast along, not exactly taking any time to slow down, reaching to the sides of his chest as they spread down towards his feet. Meanwhile, Shadow would sneeze a bit from a rather new well of fire being stored inside of him as he sneezed some fire out of his mouth. Which would get the both of them to look at each other. “K-Kota I’m fine, I swear you silly Gecko.” Shadow somehow changed his partner’s nickname without really noticing. He was not sick, by any means, though his stomach was becoming just a tad more cubby and smooth being a creamy pale color. “You sure about that Lizard, you might be catching a cold in this forest. You sure Vesper didn’t accidentally give you a poisoned berry.” Kota would chuckle just a tad, as he put a hand on the transforming human. Not even acknowledging the still human, he only knew him as his loving Charmeleon. Which game the soon to be lizard, some relief from his initial somewhat panic from the sneeze. All the while, his feet would flatten, cracking slowly, toes merging into three white claws.
“I’m sure our teammate wouldn’t actually do that, though come to think about it I think he might be in trouble…” This assessment would be fruitful as the pair would then hear Gliscor and Roserade battling it out a few hundred feet away. As he would slowly feel a bit of those flames starting to emerge lower than initially, it seemed he was growing a rather decently long tail for his size. Where the tip of it instantly ignited, sparking a new life for Shadow. The last of the changes for Shadow would of course be his head, which would push out into more of a short snout. As his eyes would darken lightly into a darker blue. Then they would narrow a bit diagonally on each side of his morphing skull. The final change for the two to finally be a part of this world forevermore would be a small horn on the back of his head that seemed to be a part of his skull.
Giving their new bodies a few moments to readjust to their “new” bodies, the both of them would breathe for a couple of moments seemingly extinguishing any doubts they had about this world they’ve come to know. They realized why they were here, and were on a mission to help Vesper take care of the villagers who had been made ill. They still had no idea who actually had been causing this situation to unfold. Though they were about to find out.
By the time the newly transformed teammates completed and gained their “lost” memories, it was about time Vesper asked for help. Not that he really knew that Shadow and Kota were actually transformed by this point. He only noticed them slowly starting minutes ago. “So you think you’re so clever Roserade? You don’t think I would allow you to get a free attack without a plan? Heh, I’ll let you know I benefit from being poisoned? How do you ask? Figure it out yourself.” He would give a bit of a confident smirk, before flying swiftly towards them, and biting down on them. Using Ice Fang in the process, guess he was in the advantage. However, he would be cut off quickly by Toxicroak who at this point was watching from the sidelines. Though to make the fight unfair he would shoot a focus blast at the Gliscor, which wasn’t fully effective. Though, it was enough to distract him and gang up on Vesper. “You really thought you were smart to take us all on at once? I’ll make sure you don’t wake up once we’re done with you.” The Toxicroak would utter in a tone that would scare the socks off of anyone if they weren’t used to it.
In the background hearing this battle taking place, Kota would look at himself a bit more confidently. “Shadow.” He would just simply with a cunning smirk, he knew that it was time for the pair of inseparable explorers to help out his ally Vesper. “Got it, flank them with your special move. Then I’ll bring out the big guns for the flower chick~” Shadow would chuckle just a tad before initiating their plan of action. “Well, looks like I don’t have you twice, I’ll show them what it means to be a part of Team Wyverns~” Kota started with a spark of a leader coming over him. As the two of them would run into position behind some berry bushes to find their adversaries ganging up on their comrade.
Within the next few seconds, Team Silent Stingers would have their thoughts distracted by two different types of flames. One being the pure flame thrower of the Charmeleon and on the other side of them. A bluish and purple fiery beam would rain down near the trio, guess they were an even match now. A simple three on three, surely this would make for an interesting fight. Who knows would come out on top. “Oh, so you bought friends? Didn’t know you were able to make friends after you tried to snitch on us. Heh, guess it’s time to make sure you can’t stop our position of power!” Roserade and crew would jump back, preparing for combat. There was not going to be anything held back in this. “G-Guys? Why did you come to save me… I thought I told you to hide.” Realizing the situation rather quickly, Vesper tried to play it off as he knew nothing about his now non-human comrades conforming to his world. “Like we’d leave you to be beat up by these scheming bullies, and thieves… I should have known it was you three making the village sickly.” Kota rolled his eyes, seemingly much more annoyed by the situation than he probably should have been. “Come on, let’s take out these crooks before I make Shadow toast them!”
Vesper was of course confused for the time being, but to not show any kind of hesitation or weakness he decided to get behind the two. Cautiously looking at the dreaded team silent stingers. “You sure we’re going to be able to take them on, you ate one of those poisoned berries…” Vesper would say worried his new allies were a bit damaged from the poison, not to mention what actually happened to the pair. “Oh you’re one to talk traitor, if it weren’t for your pals you’d be dead on the ground.” Toxicroak would chime in not giving a moment for the pair to answer.
Dashing towards the trio, he prepared to use poison jab, on who? He kept darting his eyes around it was hard to tell. With that, Shadow got a bit enraged by this and decided to target Toxicroak directly to prevent his team from getting hurt. Flames spewing out of the new Charmeleon's maw, a rather direct hit from his trusty flamethrower. “No time to talk, we got to make sure we teach these crooks a lesson…” Shadow huffing a bit, as the Toxicroak appeared to have been slightly burned from the direct flamethrower. “Then shut your trap you insolent fire breathing buffoon!”
It was not clear who actually said that because by the time it was said each of six pokemon in the forest clearing had their target. Shadow obviously still enraged from the Toxicroak they would trade blows for quite some time. Kota and Arbok despite Kota’s type disadvantage did have the speed and cunning wits to match them. The main focus would be on the current leaders of the teams Vesper and Roserade.
“Hmpf, guess you really are a Traitor organizing a exploration team for yourself and here I thought I might give you a second shot if you could prove yourself in battle.” Appearing to be rather monotone and sarcastic about the whole ordeal, Roserade would charge a Shadow Ball and launch it promptly at Vesper catching them off guard. “So, you even learned a few tricks in the time I was gone. Should have known you were using the money you were getting for something… Luckily for you I’m not afraid to get up close and personal!” Taking the blunt of the attack, he was mildly injured, though able to fight enough to jump back up, and swiftly bite down on Roserade, icicles forming from his jaw. With it being super effective, Roserade attempted to shake Vesper off of her though the pain of it made her flinch giving Vesper a chance to end it.
“Looks like I’ll be able to expose your scheme to the whole town, it’s up for them to decide what to do. But for now I think I want to get my resolution to this whole ordeal.” Without a second of hesitation, he would slash at Roserade with one of his claws, infested with dark energy. Using Night Slash, the Roserade would stumble back before slowly collapsing on the floor. By this time, the other two members of Silent Stingers were weakened and were attempting to retreat, upon seeing their leader go down panic ensued. Toxicroak would jump to grab Roserade and dashed into the deeper of the forest without a word. Arbok would look around a bit confused, before slithering off towards the same direction. The trio mildly beat up by this point decided it would be best to rest and inform the town about the situation. They all hoped that would be believed, but for now they were glad to have taught Team Silent Stingers a lesson.
“Well now that we’re an official team, we might as well have a way to identify each other right?” Vesper would chuckle a bit, before pulling out two identical scarves that he was currently adorning. White with black stripes, an official sign that they were finally introduced to this world, and had someone who knew a secret that he could never tell another soul.
What would the trio encounter next in their adventures? How will the town react to their discovery? Will team Silent Stingers attempt to get their revenge? Find out next time in their next adventure! “The Dawn of Enigmas…”

This does leave an interesting question of how that Gliscor might handle these new friends suddenly thinking they've always been around, grapple with the inherent confusion it may cause with others and between themselves.
Really there's a lot you can do with characters having to grapple with a paradox of not necessarily having always been who they think they are currently. The old Xanadu stories handled that very well.
