Sorry it took so long to reply, I was eating dinner xD
But for starters... I know everyone says this, but look at real animals before you start drawing something new. I find thay it helps a lot to go to google, search whatever, find a nice picture, and then draw in the bone and muscle structure. It might sound kinda challenging, but if you just start out with some basic circles around the head, chest, and.. erm... butt area, then already you have a very simple shape of your animal. So all you would have are three circles. Yay! Then you can start to define it a bit more, by traceing ovals at the shoulders and flank. Then add some circles at the joints like the elbow/knee and wrist/ankle. Now you have basic legs :D
Also, you can trace sevral pictures (but don't post them, of course! That would make you look bad xD) just to get and idea of how the animal's shape works.
Also, refference like crazy if you're just starting out! Until you can draw something off of the top of your head, it's best to draw things with proper anatomy. Then again, everything looks better with proper anatomy... but! Drawing things 'perfect' all the time can get dull, so it's time to get your own style! As soon as you're proud of your work, you can start to develope your own style. (ex. big eyes, big or tiny ears, cartoonyness or realism, etc, etc.)
Here a picture to possibly help you with my awful explainations -- http://i53.tinypic.com/9bhhg2.png
To the top right is the circle technique on a German Shepard, and at the bottom is a real wolf pic found off of google, me refferencing it as it is, and then me drawing it in my style xD
Well, that probably didn't help you at all and just made you very confused :D Toasteh = baaaad teacher.
