Here we have an early picture of Rufuse, drawn back in 2020 before the character had a name. A few things have changed about the character's appearance since I drew this, his jumpsuit resembles Bertha's more closely, his signature tool changed from a wrench to a welder, and I changed how I drew furry faces here. For a while in 2020, I kept giving characters a "muppet" look before moving onto a more "plushie" look. I'm going to post a few more 2020 pics while I look through my sketchbooks and figure out where everything is.

Rufuse, introduced in my second Orion Commonwealth story, is a Reclaimer, an engineer specialized in using the Orion Commonwealth's incredible fabrication nanotechnology to repair rather then build completely anew. While there is enough overlap that the difference between the two is more a matter of philosophy and semantics rather then technology and technique, it is enough for a segment of the Commonwealth population to look down on Reclaimers for being silly (read: stupid) enough to bother with fixing things instead of taking the more quasi-disposable philosophy of mainstream Constructors (read: everything can be broken down and reassembled.) While Rufuse himself bristles at this classist treatment, he admits that it has unintentional perks like being the first in line to collaborate with the humans of the Sol Federation who he gets along with rather well.
