The brass is thrown out to the side not up like the ARs and never touches the scope. If the brass hit the scope then it would have to mounted off set like the M1D sniper. Not a good position to mount a scope tho in the case of the garand, it was so they could reload the endblok clips and clear the ejected empty clip.
