Behold, the third iteration of my little 1950s slice-of-life project. I really like this version and want to do it as a graphic novel some day. I love this story a lot. I mean, it isn't so much a story as it is a "slice of life teen drama", but there's a single thread throughout. That single thread happens to be the growing bonds (and complicated tangles) among the members of a very small and tight-knit after-school club. Here's two of them.
Exhibit A: Felix Mueller.
Star running back on the football team. He is popular and well-liked at school. I like to call him "Mr. Chivalry" because this guy would hold open all the doors and give you the jacket off his back... which he must've done already because he isn't wearing one in this drawing. That said, he has a tendency to get grouchy and has a bit of a short temper. He is an introvert and keeps his deepest thoughts and feelings to himself. He absolutely hates to lie and values honesty above all other traits. He enjoys reading detective fiction and pulp sci-fi magazines. He has an overall successful and enviable life, save two main points of contention: His dad, who spends more time planning lessons for classes and grading papers than he does talking with Felix, and of course... the undeniable, unconquerable crush Felix is developing on his friend Liam.
Exhibit B: Liam Peddington.
A boy whose pockets are always full and whose shoes are always shined. Although he is perfectly capable of being quite prim and proper (as he was raised to be), Liam is the exact opposite of prim and proper. He's hyperactive, easily intimidated (yet headstrong), and is both a slob and a huge klutz. Thanks to this combination of qualities and his "class clown" tendencies, Liam gets picked on a lot. He is thoroughly passionate about all things comic books and monster movies, and has an interest in making them himself... if he could ever stick the landing and stop losing interest a day into any project. He's got a hopeless crush on Felix's friend Sarah, since she was the first person at school to show him kindness. He considers Felix to be his best pal, but also madly admires the guy.
