The memory of the event had grown foggier still as the day dragged on, and Sylvia inevitably continued her work the next night. It had completely slipped her mind to tell anybody that she had seen the snake lurking around the library, some mental block just poking its head up whenever she saw anyone to whom it would concern.
Shrugging and returning books to their shelves, one particular volume kept appearing on her return cart, as though placed there by an invisible hand. Out of the corner of her vision, she thought she had seen a flash of copper, the glint of a yellow eye here and yonder. The sensation of being watched overcame the canine. Finding the misplaced book on her trolley a fourth time, she very narrowly saw the whipping of a serpent tail escape behind the tall shelves, into the shadows. But, what exactly was this curious tome her stealthy observer was repeatedly placing at her attention?
