Here’s a look at the Strat-inspired headstock of my Fanner Exosphere electric ukulele. The neck is made of maple and the fretboard is wenge. Fanner Guitar Works co-owner, Brian Fanner, personally sets up each ukulele before it ships out.

I had no idea what 'wenge' was, so I Googled it. It's a bean stalk. So that stomping in the front yard is an angry giant wanting his magic ukulele back.
Seriously, wenge (pronounced when-gay, I see) is a very dark, dense and heavy wood from Africa. Fretboard, okay, but a bass viol made of this stuff would need a team to move it.

It’s extremely heavy. A woodworking friend of mine was kind enough to fabricate a custom stand for my lute-kulele. I wanted a dark wood and the only thing our lumber supply had at the time which was wide enough was a slab of wenge. The stand is very heavy. It’s definitely not going to be knocked over by accident.
