Zerrex is a Drakkaren, a subspecies of the Drakkai, which are a traditional people that inhabit the jungle continent of Hez'Ranna. The son of the most tyrannical of the four Compass Lords that ruled the nation, he was trained as an assassin and bodyguard for his father, and from a young age was often used as a disposable asset, embroiled in civil conflict and often sent on dangerous missions against the other Clan leaders. Questioning his father's motives and movements, he eventually defected and left Hez'Ranna entirely, traveling to the Republic of Ire.
In Ire he ended up working largely underground for criminal organizations, putting his brawn to use: in Hez'Ranna Zerrex is actually considered somewhat short for his species, but outside of the jungle nation he feels like a giant. Eventually, however, a longing for more led Zerrex away from life as an enforcer. Eventually he discovered that Hez'Ranna's internal conflicts had become a full out civil war that had resulted in the fall of the Compass Lords, including the death of his own father, and he no longer was considered a "traitor." With his home nation going through a reformist period, Zerrex ended up in the perfect position to act as a diplomat and peacekeeper between Hez'Ranna and the Irenic Republic, which had lost a lot of Hez'Ranna's trust due to repeated attempts to interfere in the civil conflict and other territorial disputes.

While over fifty years old, Drakkai are known to live to almost two hundred, and biologically Zerrex is roughly around his thirties. Drakkai are also synapsid in nature, meaning that he's essentially mammalian with a reptilian wrapper. While he has scales, he also has warm blood, among other inherent mammal traits.
Hotheaded and angry in his youth, as he's grown older Zerrex has become much more easygoing and comfortable to be around. He cherishes the traditions of Hez'Ranna and his heritage, but has largely adapted to Irenic culture, which is less physical and gregarious and much more freedom-of-self motivated. He values his family and friends, small pleasures, and does his best to make the best of things even in the worst of times. He has a strong code of honor and tries his best to maintain a decent moral compass, even if his Hez'Rannan sensibilities sometimes conflict with Irenic culture.
