I was playing Metroid Prime 2 one day and I was in the dark world. Walking around, lost my footing, fell into a pit of hurt. As my health was draining, I was trying to scramble back up to safe ground. I -finally- managed to get back to one of those health-recovering bubble areas... yeah, with my health down to almost nothing and no energy tanks left. And this was near an imposing monster that I didn't know would attack me or not. I just thought it was sleeping. So here I am resting and regaining health underneath this dangerous thing. I saw it as a situation of mercy and unease, and a drawing opportunity.
...Which I promptly turned into a humorous "unfortunate luck" situation with a monster that illustrates the situation more clearly. I couldn't have a health bubble thing since no one would know what that is, so I took a cue from Half-Life's health dispensers. And I drew a space fox for the heck of it.
