Resolving the Past: An Alexia & David Story: Chapter 3

And We're Finally here to Part 3, the conclusion to this story! Again, I thank Twolfing for his part in helping me to complete the end this. But I do have an Epilogue planned, A Very short Epilogue. But for now, enjoy. This is a good ending to the tale.
Chapter 3 – Final Confrontation
The Gas Station – Twilight Hour
The Sun was slowly coming down as the gas station attendant was looking out with confusion, playing witness to the events that were transpiring. David stood still, strong, and level-headed as he was facing the taller thoroughbred, someone so over confident in himself as to look down on David like he was a teenager. The sight reminding Alexia of how taller, meaner kids use to look down on shorter kids back in her high-school days. But this felt so much different. This was between two aggressive men, and both were doing this out of sheer conflict over her. Every muscle, every ounce of her body was tense, as the pit in her stomach was tight watching, and praying to God that no harm would come to David.
Rufus and David stood there for a moment, their staring long and intense, it was only seconds, but it felt like minutes before Rufus made the first move.
Pulling out a folded piece of paper from his pocket and showing David the document of his marriage to Alexia, how it was still his right to confirm that he was still her husband. “You got a lot brass for stepping up like this dude. You wanna be a man, then let’s be men.” he said before putting the paper on his car before his other hand pulled out a handgun, lifting it in the air where it was visible! Alexia’s heart sinking as her breathing got tight, only to relax as Rufus set his weapon down on the paper!
“Now! Here’s the terms little-man! My wife is coming back with me! Cause she doesn’t belong to you in the First place. I came a long way here, and I’m not gonna budge. You’re gonna leave me the hell alone, and stay in your shitty little town where you belong. If you wanna fight me, Go Ahead! Cause I will defend myself! Like the state of Texas says, Gotta Stand my Ground... Right?!“ Rufus said smirking, brimming with ego.
David looked at that gun, than back at Rufus, he was intimidated, but he didn’t look back at Alexia, no. There was resoluteness in his eyes; something about it brought her some comfort. And as she was thinking about it, a car pulled up to the gas station.
“If you got nothing to say, than we’re done here-“
“No, we’re not done here!” David responded rather strongly.
“Oh Really?! Then what you got?! Cause all I see you got, is a piece of shit truck, dirty clothes and a jacket on your back… and nothing else!” Rufus said before another car showed up, but it wasn’t even parked by the gas station, it was pulled up on the curb, which was rather strange.
“...Is that all you see? Cause I got a lot more to bring here than just guns. Sure, you brought a 9mm ruger pistol, with some decent ammo.” David calmly said before he slowly reached into his coat and pulls out a 357. Magnum handgun, and sets it on the hood of Rufus’ car next to the marriage document! Alexia didn’t even know or noticed that he had that stuffed in his coat till now!
“But I brought a Magnum 8-shot! And I know how to use it. I don’t care who you are, and I don’t give a damn about what you want. You can have anything, but Alexia is my woman! And I’m not letting her go anywhere with you.” As Rufus was distracted by the gun that David pulled out, a third car pulled up to the side of his truck, and before long the doors opened to reveal that David’s father came out with his cousin Brandon and a Shotgun in tow! Before long the other two cars opened up their doors to reveal some friends that David knew, all of them armed with a weapon in hand! This sudden reinforcement of his fellow family and friends as they came into view and surrounded Rufus had the stud sweating abit!
“Looks like I’m setting the terms now!” David growled before he continued to make himself clear.
“I’m only giving you one choice! You leave that document here, you leave me and my woman alone. And you get the Fuck outta Little Rock! Cause I guarantee that you won’t leave this place in one piece.” David threatened with such a commanding tone. And to Alexia’s shock, he had managed to get most of his friends and even his Cousin here to back him up.
Before long the Sheriff’s car came rolling on down, Alexia worried that things might escalate even further till she saw who was... it was a man she saw so many times before at the bar always drinking with David's dad, everyone slowly lowered their arms to avoid upsetting the local law, he instructed his deputy to stay back and wait.
Although the sheriff was well known to be an easy going kind of man, no one dared to be on his bad side especially the crooks and the low lives, like that one time he broke the jaw of some abusive creep who put hands on his own girl-friend, he made sure that his word of law would never be forgotten.
Slowly, the sheriff made his way towards the center of the commotion, he noticed Alexia holding her hands to her muzzle. "Ma'am" he acknowledged her as he tipped his hat before focusing on the matter. "What seems to be the problem?" he asked, "he threatened me with a gun trying to steal my wife" Rufus piped up quickly, even pointing at the magnum.
"Gun? What gun?" the sheriff asked staring at David and his magnum, David knew what he meant by this and pocked his gun away, both of them acting as if it wasn’t there, much to Rufus’ shock and surprise.
"what's this about?" he then asked David.
"This man was trying to take away my lady. Says Carol over here is he Ex-Wife." he answered back.
The sheriff looks at them both and sighed, "I See. Is it true?”
“Not to my knowledge sir.” David replied!
“The Fuck!?” Rufus spoke up in opposition.
“HOLD YOUR TONGUE BUDDY! I’m The ONE WHO’S TALKING! ” the Sheriff responded to Rufus before he looks over at Alexia and waves her closer, she gradually came closer to them, worried but surprised at how much Rufus was being kept in check.
"Is this your husband?" he asked plainly, she looked away embarrassed to admit her life choices.
"Is this your ex-husband?" he asked again, "Yes..." she answered in a meek voice.
"Do you want to leave with him?" the sheriff asked. She only shook her head as she spoke up ”No! I don’t want to! I’m Staying Here!” She replied more confidently, not wanting to relive all those bad memories with him again.
"Like Hell you Are! You Are Coming with Me!" Rufus yelled attempting to assert his dominion over her.
"I Heard Enough OF You! Get into your Vehicle and Leave the Premises!" he said as the Sheriff steps up! But Rufus wanted none of that as he pushed the officer's hand away using his height to assert his place... at that moment everyone held their breath, they watched closely as Rufus slowly realized how fucked he was after trying to grab at Alexia.
David moving in to pull his woman away from him in a flash! Rufus felt a sharp pain in his knee and his body contorted to the ground by the Sheriff and his Deputy, while handcuffs are being put on him, "Know what I hate the most... abusive pieces of shit like you who think they can get away with anything!" he said pressed Rufus to the concrete before both of them pulled him up.
“ALEXIA!” he shouted at her before the Sheriff jabs him in the gut with his stick as they put him away in the car!
The sheriff gave a sigh of relief as he waved his deputy over, before looking at Alexia "I’ll need you to come tomorrow to fill some paperwork, little missy" he said.
"nothing to see here, everyone can go home" he shouted dispersing everyone.
David’s dad smiling before going over to talk with the sheriff to converse with him over everything that took place. She thought that was it that it was finally over now… until one last thing popped in her mind, that nagging sensation that kept her on edge for these past 3 years.
She had something else to get rid of... “WAIT! Wait!” Alexia said aloud as she pulled out of David’s arms and headed over to the sheriff, opening the purse, plucking out her old wedding ring and handing it over to the sheriff. “Will you please give that back to him? I don’t want it anymore.” She said before coming over to look at Rufus through the Window.
“I Don’t Ever want to see Again Rufus! Its over!” she said before leaving. For the first time in her life, Alexia felt relieved…and welcomed in this small humble town, she quietly wept while in the arms of her man, David giving a soft smile as she looked up at him. The two holding each other strongly.
“I’m sorry I didn’t tell you David…I’m so sorry.”
“Its okay babe. We’ll talk about it, You me, my folks. We got time.” he said to her with a soothing tone in his voice before she reached up to pepper his lips with her kisses. Smiling as he kissed her back.
The two driving back to her home to take some time to rest together before needing to go down to the station tomorrow to file the report on what took place. But that morning in Little Rock made Alexia feel more alive inside. As her she didn’t need to live in fear anymore.
