Ah, my favorite gator boy finally has his practice sheet. Despite the fact that he was the first character I ever drew out of this whole bunch, I am still working out the smaller details of his design. So you'll notice the details here are more inconsistent than on the rest.
I'm not usually into drawing scalies, and I'm not a huge reptile person in general, but alligators have a special place in my heart. I grew up in Louisiana, what do you expect?!

Flash and Liam butt heads a lot. On Liam's side, he's had a crush on Sarah since he met her, and when Flash shows up out of nowhere and sweeps her off her feet, Liam gets pretty upset. Liam very quickly judges Flash as a rude jerk.
Flash is a perceptive guy and immediately picks up on Liam's crush. And since Sarah spends a great deal of time with him after school, Flash does believe Liam could be competition. Sure, Sarah has nothing but platonic affection for Liam, but Flash is a bit blinded by his jealousy. It doesn't help that he perceives Liam as arrogant.
In shorter terms, their "rivalry" is based on mistaken notions of one another, fueled by mutual jealousy.
