It seems that Smoldy is trying out a new dress. Maybe for a tea party? Maybe for a school dance? Who knows, the point is that she looks completely adorable with this new outfit :3 Don't you think?
This drawing is finally ready! Sweet Celestia, this was hard! It took me several days of hard working to finally finish this apparently simple artwork. The reality is that doing reflections and drawing dragons from the back is harder than it could be expected. I required several days of testing and I won't lie, I was tempted to give up several times, but I got it! I finally was able to do it!
After doing an interesting and rich artwork with the first drawing of the year, I was decided to do more, to take a bigger challenge. I was finally ready to do the best possible drawing that I was able to about one of my favorite MLP characters of all, Smolder. I wanted to make the best possible piece of art of this adorable orange dragon while I challenged my art skills adding more difficulty with this mirror.. It required an INSANE amount of effort, an intense process of trial and error, but the result absolutely worth it. Smoldy looks completely adorable in that green dress and with that fuchsia diaper. I feel really really proud of what I was able to do here. I also may get a bit crazy with the number of layer of the Krita project. It was already turning my PC slow, but well, it resulted really useful for organized workflow.
I hope you like it as much as I do!

Seeing this delightfully detailed scene with Smolder is awe inspiring, Sweetie! I could not even begin to comprehend the difficulty in not only drawing Smolder herself and the clothes she is wearing, but also drawing her reflection in a mirror with only her back being a reference to how the reflection of her front should appear in the mirror.

I imagine Smolder is working on the 'self-esteem' and 'self-validation' lessons that are being taught at 'The School of Friendship'.
The 'Student Six' decide, for their end of semester presentations, to show what they learned from 'Harmony' while they were in the caves beneath the school during the episode 'What Lies Beneath'.
We know Silver Stream would enlist the help of her fellow students to show how she will not allow the fear of 'The Storm King' keep her from being brave and embracing how she has and will continue to be ready to remind herself that she is pushed back her fears to be there for herself and her friends.
Ocellus is worried she may become as self-serving as Queen Chrysalis. She is very smart, but she worries that her wisdom may be what makes her a threat to herself and her friends. Just like Silver Stream, she would have her close friends help her to not forget how she is the one who controls her actions and emotions. It is fear and memory of that fear that create the concern of being the next Queen Chrysalis. Knowing she has her friends and her, her intelligence, and the support of a reformed 'Changeling Hive' will allow her to follow her heart instead of her fear.
Gallus is not comfortable in tight spaces. He would have his friends surround him during his presentation as he discusses what makes him insecure while they gradually get closer and closer to him. When his friends are to where he is unable to do anything more than spin in a circle in the spot he is standing on, he would raise his wings and his friends would back away as he announces how he does not need to fear judgment from others for being who he is and doing what he feels is best to break free of his insecurities from having never had family to call his own in Griffonstone.
Sand Bar would be able to do his presentation on how he does not need the validation of those he perceives as leaders / influencers to make the right choice. I imagine his would go quite a bit like Ocellus' with each of his friends acting as an 'influential creature', or 'non-influential creature' until he ends his presentation by sharing how it is more important to be true to yourself and the ones you care about over trying so hard to get in with / follow the lead of those he feels are 'seemingly more respected.
For Yona, I could see her talking about her fear of spiders, along with similar creatures not shown in the episode, as nothing she, or any creature, should be ashamed of. Yaks are best at everying, except for gift giving, but even a proud and strong Yak can be afraid of little things. Yaks are always supposed to show strength over weakness. So, for the conclusion of her presentation, Yona would tell every creature that it is okay to be scared and, more importantly, ask for help if they ever feel scared. It is good to be proud, but better to be proud with knowledge of it being okay if you need help to be strong as yak as something.
Smolder, I feel, would go last and have the most difficult time giving her presentation. This would only grow stronger as a worry if Princess Ember, or her brother, were watching her share what she had learned from her time with 'Harmony' while beneath the school of friendship.
A table would be set out with Silver Stream and Ocellus sharing tea and conversation. They would be wearing adorable clothes, most certainly made by Rarity, while thanking each other for bringing an item for tea time. Smolder would then come into the room, dressed as you have her illustrated here, holding a tray of teacakes.
Ocellus and Silver Stream would be so happy that their 'special guest' has arrived and would invite her to take a seat and join them.
Smolder would be very nervous and may even tremble a bit as she places her tray of teacakes on the table. However, she would feel better as Sand Bar would walk in and ask to join them in having tea. Gallus would enter shortly afterwards, dressed much like Smolder, before Spike comes in with his frilly, heart-print apron. The boys helping Smolder to see that there is no shame in being who you are and doing what makes you feel happy. Dragons may have very strict standards when it comes to showing strength and weakness. However, like Yona, Smolder would end her presentation with how you should not allow yourself to feel shame, or be shamed, for being and doing what makes you happy.

Wow! I did not think I would get so immersed in this image. Thanks for the inspiration, Sweetie! :)

It's okay Yosh. I'm always pleased inspiring you. Yeah, this drawing resulted really complicated, and just as a little spoiler, I can tell you that the first part of the drawing made was the reflection, this was useful because the front part was easier to do for me and "abstracting" the back was going to be more manageable.
I like pretty much the story you describe. I think we better don't go too deep in the details since I'm literally half-way in the ninth season and we should better walk carefully through this road. Anyway, it is really interesting and even has a lot of sense. This reminds me pretty much one of my hardest presentations in the universe on a class of industrial processes. We're really scared, really decided to do our bests and well, it was a serious teamwork because all of us had to be completely aware of everything. We're somehow facing our biggest fears that day, yeah...

I am glad you have been able to enjoy Season 9 of 'Friendship is Magic' at a comfortable pace. Thankfully, or at least I am pretty certain, the story above has no spoilers for what is to happen as the series ends. However, I will be more careful in future comments and letters. :)

Team projects were always scary in university / college. If you had a good group of classmates to work with, everything would go great. Unfortunately, I did get placed in some pretty lazy groups and, well, it was not pretty.

Thank you for letting me know what side of Smolder you drew first. I, personally, feel it is an artist's choice of what to draw first. Some may prefer the character before the reflection, or do the reflection before the character. What matters is that you have a point where you feel comfortable making those first crucial lines that will become your masterpiece.

I apologize if I shared this story before, but I want to share how, when I attended a school to learn better ways to live as a person with limited, or no, eyesight, I met someone who told me, "...I found that I got better with my art as I lost more of my eyesight...".
This did not make any sense to me. It did make sense when my eyesight started to really get bad and I had to rely on 26x convex lens glasses to draw with a Sharpie / Thick Black Pen. I would not have even bothered to try drawing, but Oxnard and other friends inspired me to give it a try.
Long to short, I was very proud of what I could draw before my vision got to where I could not properly find my 'start point' to begin the image. (For humans, I would start with the right side of the face and go from there. With other animals, I started with the nose and build the image from there. Worked every time.).
***
I do miss doing and seeing art. Being able to creatively participate in your work is, for me, the closest I can still 'see' what I am doing despite not having any physical eyesight. *Snugs* Thank you, Sweetie.
