"Hey Wang, tell me why we're heading to the forest again?" Walking along a narrow, yet sunny trail are two felines, one of them a brown lion and the other, a white tiger. Both felines are Kung fu masters in their own right, having trained at their respective home locations.
"Mike, you're the one who said you prefer being alone. You told me you weren't a fan of crowds, remember?" HuWang sighs in reply, glancing over to the brown lion beside him. "You admitted it yourself the last time I ventured over here for a visit."
"Oh yeah, I remember that. I'm not dim-witted, y'know." Mike stated bluntly in response to the white tiger's claim. His brown mane ruffles slightly in the air while he treks to their destination, away from public eyes.
HuWang counters, "I didn't say you were, only that you didn't like crowds. Your mind isn't that faulty now, is it? Or am I gonna have to literally knock some sense into you again?" He adds in a teasing manner.
Mike scoffs at the idea. "Oh please! My mind isn't that faulty. It's called a 'brain fart'. You forget too, sometimes."
"Point taken, but still. I wouldn't mind doing this in a suitable location either, away from prying eyes; it depends on where we're at." HuWang bothered not to argue with Mike, instead casting his eyes on a clearing up ahead with enough space to freely navigate. His blue eyes widen a bit in recognition and relief as he announces, "Alright, we're here. This is the spot!"
"This is it? Are you sure this clearing is big enough for both of us to spar in?" Mike asks slowly, feeling uneasy. The clearing they're in seemed to be small to his liking. And if things were to get out of hand, there wouldn't be enough space to evade an attack.
HuWang explains patiently and calmly, "Mike, this space has the only clearing big enough for us to freely move about. It is big enough for even four people to spar in. Believe me when I say this, but it is pretty large."
"Okay, if you say so. If you end up with a broken bone, I'm sorry. Just giving you a heads-up!" After listening to the tiger's explanation, Mike gives him a warning in advance, which makes HuWang's calm smile falter a bit.
"Who said anything about broken bones? Sparring is a test of strength and agility, how long you can last against your opponent. Broken bones are only in real fights." The white tiger explains further, before bowing to the brown lion. He adopts a fighting stance, watching his friend across from him. "Okay Mike, ready when you are!"
"Oh right." Caught off-guard, the brown lion assumes a stance of his own while calling back to Wang, "Ready, Wang!"
"Let's begin!" The white tiger shouted, giving the signal to start. And soon, the match is on!
A few seconds into the match, HuWang starts off with a moderate left uppercut aimed straight for Mike's chin. However, Mike weaves to his left to dodge before unleashing a left axe kick at the tiger's stomach. HuWang deflects Mike's incoming pawfoot and weaves aside, causing Mike to lose his balance and fall over. However, he quickly gets back up, regaining his composure and his stance while facing the white tiger.
Chuckling at the lion, HuWang advises, "You may want to work on your kicking ability for future reference, as well as your balance. That way you'll have more control over being deflected where you won't end up flat on your back."
"I guess you have a point there. There is always more room for improvement." Mike responds in agreement. He ducks to avoid a swift spinning backhand coming for his face. As soon as the attack passes over his head, Mike scoots back a tiny bit and goes in for the attack, sending a heavy left uppercut coming HuWang's way.
"Whoop! Gotta be faster than that to tag me!" He teases after angling backwards to dodge the uppercut. But what comes next is part of Mike's unpredictability when facing his opponents. The next strike happens so fast, the tiger barely sees it coming...
"AGH! ...Ack!" After whiffing with his uppercut, Mike attempted a heavy right swing at HuWang's side, which connected hard. The force did leave the tiger's side in screaming pain, but also with the possibility of a bruised rib on contact. This leaves HuWang clutching his side, reeling from the blow.
"Bloody hell, Mike! This is just a spar, not a fight! Tone it down, will ya?" HuWang groans out, exasperated. "How are you packing that much force in a single attack? That's going overboard!"
"Heh, sorry." Mike smirked at the white tiger before him, going on to elaborate, "My strength is only natural. And years of training paid off too."
"Just be more mindful next time, got that?" HuWang watches Mike, analyzing the lion for some sort of opening he can use to attack. After noticing a nod of acceptance from the lion warrior, the white tiger straightens himself up. Then rushes in with a moderate swing aimed for Mike's face.
In return, Mike blocks the incoming swing with his arm, instead trading a jab at HuWang's face in return. The hit hardly faces the tiger as he attempts a leg sweep to trip his opponent.
"!!!" It's only a few seconds too late that Mike has any time to react; not only does he find himself having his legs swept from under him, but a spin kick to the stomach sends him back a couple feet away. While calmly staring his opponent down, he watches Mike get up again.
Once Mike gets up, his expression turns a bit darker as he goes into a more aggressive stance. HuWang, on the other hand, remains composed in his own attack stance while staring at the lion in return to size him up. After a few seconds, the white tiger rolls forward to deliver a heavy uppercut. However, Mike weaves to the side to avoid the attack, causing his opponent to whiff. A small grin comes on his face since he now uses the chance to counter him.
Leaping up with a butterfly kick, Mike nails HuWang in the face, making him flinch from the force. But after landing on his feet, Mike follows up his initial attack with a series of 3 moderate swings aimed at HuWang's face, all of which the tiger starts blocking while being pushed back.
"Heh, my turn!" The white tiger advances forward in an attempt to punch Mike in the face, only for Mike to grab his hand and deflect the attack away. Watching the white tiger stagger forward, Mike smirks as he begins advancing on him with his own attack in mind.
"?" HuWang whirls around to see Mike closing in. Unfortunately, he is too late to move with how close Mike is. Forced on the defensive once more, HuWang tries to block attack after attack. But what HuWang's focusing on is Mike's face, his emerald eyes showing determination, fire, and something else… aggression.
After blocking a high kick and a spin kick from the lion, HuWang cautions, "Careful, Mike. It's best not to let your temper or your aggression overrule you. Otherwise, you may do something you regret…" There is nothing being said to him in reply. If he can improvise-- too late!
Just as the white tiger warrior blocks another spin kick, he attempts a jab at Mike's face once more, only for the lion to send his right pawfoot upwards, catching him on the cheek. Then the lion follows up with a delayed uppercut to the stomach; this actually knocks the white tiger back a short distance.
"Aawwwww!" Clutching his stomach, HuWang slowly gets up, winded from the blow. He straightens up a bit, calling out to Mike, "Oi! Calm yourself down, Mike, or you'll really do something you'll regret later on!"
Mike's glaring at HuWang in a predatory state. Suddenly, he shakes his head, snapping out of his state and immediately, he rushes over to the white tiger, fearing the worst. HuWang assures him, "I'm fine. I'm bruised, but I'm fine. Heh heh! I'll live."
"You're not mad at me for what I just did?" Mike blinks in bewilderment, surprised at his friend's casual attitude.
"Well, you did a number on me but I will be fine. Why would I be mad anyway? Everyone has their own little problem but with some help, it can be knocked out." HuWang explains. Placing a hand on Mike's shoulder, he expresses, "Mike, for future reference, please tone down your aggression. You can end up injuring the wrong person at the wrong time."
It's more of a plea coming from the white tiger. Seeing the look in his eyes, Mike lowers his head, ashamed. He whispers softly, "I'm sorry. I don't even know what comes over me."
"Mike, it's okay." Hugging the lion, the tiger rubs his face against the lion in a friendly manner, reassuring the brown feline of his forgiveness. With the session over, the two can head back to the village.
Mike returns the gesture, but this peaceful moment is short-lived when a rumbling noise is heard. It was coming from his stomach. This leaves him feeling humiliated while HuWang chuckles in amusement, despite the pain in his stomach. "Looks like someone's hungry. We can stop by Mr. Ping's Noodle Shop on our way back to the palace."
"Yeah, that sounds like a good idea!" Mike agrees, beginning to step away and head out of the clearing. HuWang follows behind him, increasing his pace to be beside the brown lion as they venture back to the village.
