Cheap & Easy Comic Balloons
A quckie, and very basic guide to doing comic lettering baloons.
This is how I do 'em in the COBALT comic book.
For explosions, outbursts, and other oddly shaped balloons, you can draw those with the pen tool, but this basic tutorial should serve to get you started.

I just tried it out, Cobalt. it works splendidly. :) However, I had a couple of setbacks along the way, which I figured out.
When I tried to merge the balloon and tail, I had no "merge down" option. However, it worked just fine after I "Rasterized" the layers. Got a nice shape then.
Another thing... When using the "stroke" command to make the outline of the balloon, the stroke looked a bit awkward and rounded, especially on the tail of the balloon. I now will make certain that the stroke is on the *INSIDE* of the shape, not the outside or middle. With the stroke inside, you get the nice sharp point on the balloon's tail, and it doesn't look so unprofessional as what I had at first.
Excellent tutorial. :)
