lol. i showed 
frenor "napoleon dynamite" because he told me he'd never seen it. while i'm sure he probably wants that hour and a half of his life back, we were cracking jokes during the prom scene and i recalled that since nao and fren were best friends in high school, it stands to reason that an awkward prom moment would have been possible. i hurried to scribble this up before the movie ended.
i'm assuming he wasn't planning on going, but nao's date dicked out on her at the last minute and fren (being the high school man-slut but also pretty wise beyond his years and quite the charmer) pulled some kind of sweet, romantic gesture (last minute corsage!!) so that her expensive prom dress didn't go to waste.
i think someone just snapped their picture right at the height of an awkward "i secretly love you" silence... but don't worry. after high school and then a reunion after college, they get over that whole "awkward phase". that's a long time to wait to bang your high school crush, but totally worth it.

Two friends and I (one of which was my last-minute date from another town, hah) watched Empire Records in our prom clothes, went to the prom, promptly exited as said date proceeded to request "Open Arms" by Journey and sing it at full volume (this was in 2000, BTW...). We made a swift exit.
I wasn't very popular at my high school, but I was nominated for Most Talented and was only beaten out by my obnoxiously more-talented friend Laura who not only could draw better than me (art lessons, rich parents) but could sing, play piano, and had won Best Actress at One Act Play.
Bitter? Maybe a little bit. She deserved it, but I wish she hadn't been so good at SO many things. Haha. Getting nominated by classmates that I thought totally hated me (especially because of my out-there religion at the time, in a Bible belt town) was enough.

You don't like Journey? I mean, "Open Arms" sure as hell isn't their best but its liveable if the person singing it has any musical sense. Pertaining to your popularity, I was never popular in high school but I wasn't good at anything either so its a good thing you got nominated for an award. People apparently liked you enough to stop and think that you did deserve the award, even if you didn't win. Well, I'm glad your prom had a decent ending. But as someone once said, "Cats Don't Dance, and Neither do I."
