The DM for my DnD campaign explained the Mimcs as having Crab legs after my rogue Mayhem befriended one through a lucky dice roll and some persuasion. Her mimic friend's name is Des and he is guarding her treasure room at the moment. I absolutely love this little terror!

One time a party I was in had to check out a town for this wizard (later turned out to be big bad) and the town was a trap, literally everything was a mimic. We ended up actually capturing one and forced it to mimic a glove. Later we gifted the set of gloves (one being the mimic) to this wizard. Suffice to say he lost a hand after putting them on.

Well, according to Everybody Loves Large Chests by Boxy T. Morningwood https://www.amazon.com/Morningwood-...../dp/B076NSQ6JT a mimic's natural form is a living box. However, with their innate polymorphing ability they can sprout legs whenever it suits them.
I had never thought to try befriending a mimic until I stumbled across the Animated Spellbook short video on the topic: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A1H2SaIh2Wg
