Shade: “This depiction is an…interesting case. Me and Inkwolf there decided to do a little Spire Slaying. For those unaware, it’s basically a card builder simulator with a roguelike dungeon crawler attached. It’s very fun, single player, but we’ve been having fun streaming it to one another recently where one of us plays the game and the other comments on it and attempts to assist them through the run. It’s rather entertaining, as you kill enemies you get cards, different events can occur that can help or hinder you, and after you slay bosses you get a choice between three powerful relics that can help you on your journey!
…which brings us to this here, the Velvet Choker! An item that…I despise, with a white hot passion. I adore creating ludicrous card spam decks, but this item is the antithesis of that. You get one extra energy to play cards, which on its own is really useful and desirable, as you only have a set amount of energy each turn so having one more of that is almost always good! But it’s drawback is that you can only play six cards every turn…an effect that just makes me gag every time I see the item.
So on this particular run, were Ink was just both being the most luckiest and unluckiest individual alive, using a deck with absolutely no theme and yet making it function and work, got this as one of the choices from his first boss…and after a ‘heated’ debate, he decided to choose it over the other two options.
He then proceeds to play the LONGEST and most AGONIZING (said in jest) acts two and three I have ever seen, forcing a poison deck with two poison cards (Noxious fumes and one deadly poison) and getting a godsend lucky event with apparitions that let him stall for an eternity while he SLOWLY waited for everything in the room to die. It was PAINFUL! And we spent the ENTire time memeing about Velvet Choker, me just saying how he could have an amazing shiv deck by now (he passed up two blade dances during that second act with one already in his possession because Velvet Choker makes them impossible to play) how he could be playing all the cards but instead is sitting there, doing nothing, and waiting. Continual good natured barratment the whole way through until his eventual INCREDIBLY forced victory.
And all I can say is after all of it was.. well done, and I still utterly hate Velvet Choker.
Though cementing it into the Slay the Spire meme of the group will forever be entertaining to me.”
(“And on a side note, on a personal run I did after we all disbanded a day later, I decided to replace my starting relic for a boss relic just for fun
And do you want to know what boss relic I got?
First personal run after watching all this?”
Just sighs very VERY loudly, and can’t help but laugh while groaning.)
Couldn't help but post this one, if only for the same reason
SnowLeandre did in that Shade needs more appearances in my gallery! ; v ; But yeah, I pretty much explain it all above as to how this came to be, so go read that! Really happy this inspired this kind of image though XD honestly Inkwolf looks adorable as heck, and my look of disgust is palpable XD fphaah. A collar is great fun, but when it restricts my ability to play cards I hate it! (and honestly it makes sense for Shade to not like it regardless as he's the one that puts collars ON people, not wears them! > 3 < fpheeh).

Ah yes, good times, good times. And lots of good natured banter that day. Honestly, that mental image you painted of the silent just standing there, wobbling around a bit, barfing in the corner and the enemies eventually just dying out of frustration just perfectly summed up this miserable pile of paper that I ended up using as a deck that run. But hey, if you have a lot of time and no self-respect whatsoever, a single Noxious Fumes is all the damage you'll ever need! Right?
All I'm saying is, a Velvet Choker is the perfect relic to pick if your deck can't interact with the game anyways.

PFfhh, you are unfortunately very right on that XD but yeah, I adored that bit of mental imagery too, glad you did as well! ; v ; it was an a overall great time, but, maybe next time we don't rely on a Apparition event and a Noxious fumes that isn't even in the deck yet before deciding that's exactly what is going to be worked toward anyway ; v ; pfhehe.
