You know, I never thought about it, but it makes far more sense that a tail component on a space suit would be shrunk down like that, as most of the volume of the tail is just fur.

Another way around that might be to use the vacuum bag technology. A lot like how tie fighter pilot flight suits are vacuum sealed.
