Almost always surrounded in a huge arctic maelstrom and regularly dipping to -200C, the poles on Tivar are some of the harshest environments in the whole system. The constant battering winds and freezing air always move in the same direction leaving horizontal icicles on every surface, including the wildlife.
The dominant species in the north are the Ice Striders, towering at just over 20 meters tall. These organisms are silicon based like the rest of the life on Tivar, and they are specially adapted to life in the extreme cold. They will only walk one direction their entire life, following the direction the wind blows. This keeps their more sensitive organs safe from the biting cold, and helps them manage their food supply. The dead "floaters", or in other words, the aerial life on Tivar, are often pulled by the winds up into the polar maelstroms. This leads to organic material from their carcasses precipitating constantly to the surface, where most of the polar life gets their food source. Ice Striders use their modified dorsal plates and nostrils to catch and consume these organic particles. They also possess a much longer frontal "mouth" to eat any larger organisms that have been laid to rest on the surface.
In general, there is a whole planktonic ecosystem that lives in the air, all feeding off of particles from dead fliers.
There are also reports of huge derelict structures lost in the storms... did a sapient species once live here?
