As the world of Tazero fell deeper and deeper into Savagery, swift courier Dragons would carry light freight and important passengers over the lands. It was said that a powerful Warlord found a way to gain knowledge from the Future and the Past. In no time at all, he and his forces built powerful flying machines to intercept the Dragons and take their precious cargo.

Yeah. I like to look at my dragons as "Organic Aircraft," and draw them to where they look like they'd function in a similar manner as aircraft would. You're right. The Dragon in this instance not only uses his head and neck to keep from stalling in level flight, but also to gain or decrease altitude, and steer.
Funny you should mention that. I was considering a scenario where one of the planes gets in directly behind the Dragon and starts firing away with the machine gun. In the next panel, the warplane is going down with white gunk covering both the pilot, the machine gunner, and most the front of the aircraft. The crew of the warplane are reacting with great disgust with the realization of what they've been covered with. In the panel after that, one of the Dragon Riders is stroking the neck of the Dragon and saying. "Good Boy! That'll teach 'em!"
Now that's the first I've ever heard of Birds being able to pass Gizzard stones. I was always under the impression that once the stones were in the crop they stayed there until they were worn out. In that book, "The Flight of Dragons" the author pointed out that his dragons had gizzards, and they instinctively knew where to find rocks with piezoelectric qualities which they could strike to produce sparks and ignite the methane built up in their gut. I kinda like the idea of my Dragons being able to spit stones at high velocity, so why not?
Both methane and hydrogen are produced by gut fermentation of fiber. (In healthy humans, it is mostly hydrogen.) I love the piezoelectric stones idea! If the dragon swallowed air that mixed with the hydrogen and methane with a stone behind it... I have a replica of a Chinese muzzle loading hand cannon that is decorated as a fire breathing dragon.
