Part 4

Kai sheepishly enters the gym, It’s not super busy but still busy enough that she finds herself wishing she had invested in some less revealing workout attire. She heads over to the weights.

“I guess I’ll probably need a lot,” Kai said, loading weights onto the bar for a deadlift. Loading up a couple hundred pounds. Kai felt nothing as she raised the weights “Umm, I guess I need some more..” Emptying the rack Kai loaded up the bar. She tried now… and again. Nothing. Kai looked around hoping no one saw her as she tried again with one arm, now getting concerned. The bar bent but she still felt nothing, the only hard part being keeping her balance so she didn’t get pulled forwards as she attempted a curl.

A passerby did a double take at the pudgy wolf she blushed, setting down the weights and giving an embareds wave.

“I need to talk to Bruce about this right now” Kai said in dread as she did her best to avoid looking like she was fleeing the gym in a panic.

Bruce gets up from his desk distracted from his work by a loud knocking at the door. Checking his cameras he sees Kai standing at the door in her workout clothes with a nervous look on her face.

“Kai?” Said Bruce opening the door “What are you doing here? Why didn’t you just call me?”

“Sorry about the door...” Kai said nervously “I’m just uh a bit on edge…”

Bruce turned noticing the large dent in his door. “What’s wrong?” Bruce asked again, trying to calm her down.

“Bruce I just ran all the way here from the other side of town” Kai responded frantically “And, I’m not even out of breath! I didn't even break a sweat! I was passing cars on foot!” Kai squeezed her head as she started pacing back and forth.

“I d-don’t,” Bruce stammered. “That seems really impressive. I don't see the problem?”

“How am I supposed to exercise at all?!” Yelled Kai “Nothing I do exerts me in the slightest!”
“Oh… Shit I hadn’t considered that,” Bruce said thinking to himself “I wonder if that’s why they scrapped this project”

“What?! Where did you get this stuff? Do I have tech you got dumpster diving inside of me!” Kai said in a panic.

“No no no, It was still locked up I just knew since the project was scrapped, Uh I mean put on permanent hold. No one would come looking for it if it went missing especially if it got replaced with some broken augments that looked close enough” Bruce flinched at Kai’s glare. “Look I went through a lot of work to get that thing. I can get a work around, just give me some time ok? It shouldn’t even be that hard to code up something to control the max motor assistance.”

Kai’s appearance relaxed. “You better fix it big guy” Kai said leaning in for a quick kiss, “Well I’ll leave you to your work. Do a good job I might have a surprise for you.”
