'chain' belongs to the term 'side chain' which is a technique used in the second part of this track. I don't know how to go about explaining it without using painfully esoteric terminology but it's the pulsatey synth thing that starts at approx. 1:47 on this track. As far as I know, there is no formal name for introducing instruments one at a time. :/
