Go to Route 15. 2:00 PM. Don't be late.
The letter sent chills down N’s spine. There was no indication of who wrote it, nor did he even know why it was sent to him. Imagine being yelled at but they don’t tell you why; that’s how N felt in the moment. Nonetheless, he considered it wise to see what was up, in case it threatened anyone he cared about, like Goyangi.
“Come on, Zorua. We’re going on a little adventure.”
Zorua tagged alongside N while leaving the apartment building, and N let Reshiram out of its Poké Ball, and told it where he wanted to go. Reshiram nodded, and flew to Route 15, which was covered in thick fog. N recalled Reshiram upon landing, and was worried about being able to see. It didn’t help that the fog smelled a bit like lavender, which made N feel drowsy. Now was not the time to go to sleep! Someone’s life could potentially be on the line! He looked around for someone of interest, but there was nobody to be found except for a few trainers. Maybe this is the wrong location, thought N. The White Forest is close ahead, after all.
N and Zorua began walking into the White Forest, hoping to find the mystery person there. They didn’t find anyone of interest, but N did notice a strange Pokémon in one of the clearings. It looked like a small, beige dinosaur with a round body. It immediately turned to look at N and Zorua upon hearing them. N decided to try and talk to it.
“Hey. Uh, how are you?”
The Pokémon tensed up for a moment, then ran into the bushes. Shortly afterwards, N and Zorua noticed an odd smell, similar to a skunk’s smell. N covered his nose due to the considerable strength of the odor, which seemed to have been caused by the small Pokémon being frightened by N. Yet, he felt compelled to follow it.
“Wait! Where are you going?”
N began running towards the Pokémon. Zorua couldn’t keep up very well, so he jumped and grabbed N’s ponytail, causing N to yelp in pain.
“OW! Why did you..?!”
Zorua held on for dear life, fearing he might end up flying away if he let go. Eventually, N noticed he was just running in random directions, and he had no idea where he was. Out of breath, he sat down on the ground and panted heavily. As he took a moment to catch his breath, N realized how much gas he’d been holding in. He was already feeling bad because he was exhausted, so he figured farting would help him feel a little better.
*PFFFFFFFFFFFRrrrt*
While he definitely felt better, N couldn’t handle the smell of his gas at all, but really, when has he ever been able to? He pulled the neck of his black shirt over his nose so he could still use both hands if he needed to. He was in an unfamiliar environment, after all. If the mysterious person intended to attack him, he’d have to be ready to defend himself. Zorua followed N through the thick bushes, and eventually they noticed a clearing. They began walking towards it when Zorua heard something rustling.
“Hey, N? Did you hear that?”
“Hear what?”
“Something cracking. I think something’s in the bushes.”
“Well, be on your guard.”
After a few more steps, the sound was heard again, and this time N heard it. He became a bit nervous, believing it might be the anonymous sender. He readied himself just as they reached the clearing. He uncovered his face and looked around for any threats, and he saw the bushes briefly move. Someone - or something - was definitely following him. Suddenly, he heard Zorua gasp; he turned around, and saw Zorua on the ground, knocked unconscious. N was quite worried at this point, and started to panic. Then, something hard hit the back of his head; it felt like it was made of either wood or stone. N’s vision went blurry, and his consciousness was completely off. Once he came back to his senses, he went into full-on panic mode. This was not the first time he’d been hit in the back of the head, not in the slightest. The silhouette of a Pokémon holding what looked like a bō staff jumped in front of him. The Pokémon spun the staff several times before pointing it at N’s face. Upon closer inspection, to N’s horror, the staff was the femur of a Salamence. The Pokémon locked eyes with N, and made it quite obvious that it would not hesitate to attack him again.
“Don’t think I didn’t see what you did. If you DARE put your grubby little hands on my daughter, you will be subjected to…”
“Your daughter?? I didn’t want to hurt her! Pokémon are my friends!”
The Pokémon stepped out of the shadows, revealing itself to be a battle-scarred Marowak. It pointed the bone staff at N again.
“State your name.”
“N-Natural. Though I prefer to be called N.”
The Marowak lowered its weapon, so N felt safe enough to sit up.
“Well, N, I’m not going to trust you easily. Too many creatures have tried to go after my daughter. Especially a Nidoking and a Nidoqueen. Those two are my mortal enemies…”
“Why? Why do they want to hurt your daughter?”
“I accidentally caused a problem with them, and now they’re intent on returning the pain.”
“Why? What happened?”
“It’s better left unspoken for now… wait. You understand me?”
“Yes, I do. I can understand the voices of all Pokémon.”
“Are… are you maybe a Pokémon?”
“No, I’m not.”
“Well, you don’t seem to have a type…”
“By the way… what’s your name?”
“My name’s Myra. My name is feared around here because I’m a combat expert. I’ll do anything to protect my daughter.”
“Speaking of which, can I see your daughter?”
“For what reason?”
“I just want to meet her, get to know her.”
Myra hesitated, then sighed.
“Very well. Come on out, Corona.”
The small Pokémon from earlier poked its head out from the bushes. N was surprised, because he’d never seen a Cubone in person at all before, let alone one not wearing a skull. The strange smell hit N’s nose again, confirming the Cubone to be the source. N coughed a bit from the odor, but tried to be as polite as possible.
“Hello, little one.”
“H-hi. My… my name’s Corona.”
“Well, that’s a lovely name. My name’s N.”
“Why were you chasing me?”
“Someone told me to come here, and I ended up bumping into you. When you were running, I was confused, so I went to see where you were going. I didn’t want to hurt you, I was just curious.”
Corona looked bewildered for a moment, then smiled.
“Mama says I’m curious too!”
“Is that so?”
“Yep!”
“We have a bit in common. We both have curious natures, we’re both shy around people, we…”
*pfpfpfpfpfpt*
“We…*cough*... We’re both stinky.” N pinched his nose. “Heheheh…”
Corona sniffed, then covered her nose.
“You ARE stinky! Pew!”
“Yeah, I am…” N had a sad look on his face, clearly embarrassed.
Zorua stepped into the conversation.
“Hey, Corona, N doesn’t like it when people talk about his stink, ok? Stop that.”
“Sorry.”
N accepted Corona’s apology, and patted her on the head. Soon, everyone heard someone yelling.
“N? Hello? Are you there?”
N recognized this voice. It was Goyangi, and she was calling N’s name. N realized he’d have to leave his new friend.
“Well, Corona, I gotta go. It was nice meeting you.”
“You’ll come back, right?”
“Maybe, I don’t know yet.”
N and Zorua waved goodbye to Corona and Myra, ready to see Goyangi. Corona wildly waved back, putting a smile on N’s face. He then started towards the sound of Goyangi’s yelling.
“Yoo-hoo, N? Where are you?”
“I’m over here! I’m coming!”
Goyangi and N started running towards each other, and they darn near tackled each other with the way they hugged. Then, Goyangi looked somewhat annoyed.
“I told you not to be late!”
“Wait, that letter was from you??”
“Yeah, it was. After sending it, I realized that I probably should’ve been clearer, and less ominous, but I figured you might have recognized my handwriting.”
N facepalmed. He’d seen Goyangi’s handwriting hundreds of times, he probably should’ve memorized it by now! He felt a bit silly at that moment.
“Oh, don’t worry N. This is my fault, not yours.”
“Ok. Though, what was that letter about?”
“It was a hangout invitation to watch the annual Tranquill migration. It’s beautiful to watch them fly south, it’s a magnificent display of unity among wild Pokémon. I thought you knew about it.”
“...No?”
“Wow, I REALLY need to work on my writing skills… I’m so sorry.”
“It’s alright. For now, we can watch the migration.”
Thus, N, Goyangi, and Zorua watched the flocks of Tranquill flying south, where their feathers created a shimmering, dancing display in the sky.
