This piece was intended to be a nod to Isamaru, the legendary dog from the previous Kamigawa set. I didn't know they were going to add a Hachiko reference, but I guess I should've haha. I'm honored the WotC art directors entrusted him to me!

This artwork is so epic to look at! But then I read the first sentence in your description and now I'm sad, haha. :c Like what if the Wanderer will never return? But that's why he's called the Ever Faithful, I suppose.
There are so many real life stories like these, about a dog's loyalty and patience to wait for their masters/families/friends forever. So I kinda thought, the throne belongs to him, he earned it. Man, we don't deserve a dogs.

When I said Wizards should commission you to draw more dragons, this isn't what I had in mind! But aside from the amazing job detailing Yoshimaru, you also did a phenomenal job with the throne room. It's got a great sense of golden opulence amongst the simplicity of small ponds and wood-paneled walls. Love the detail on the throne itself. Very well done!

As an fan of detailed background and fur. I really like how this artpiece is. It starts simple from edges towards that throne and when eye reaches throne it is there for a reason with this worlds most loyal dog that ever existed. Still sitting and waiting loved one to return and never giving up hope till the final day.
Seriously i can't praise this one enough, but know this. It is not often you see artpiece that literally bring tears in your eyes and make your nose sniff. Might be just that dog wich name shall not be spoken, but i think everything in this one is just in right place. Thank you for sharing this masterpiece. Keep up great work.
