“Look, isn’t it pretty?!” Whisper exclaimed. The sky was painted pink as the sakura petals fell from the nearby trees. She managed to catch one and gently held it in her fingers, examining it.
Behind her a large, white creature with a flowing, green mane and golden spikes along its back looked on. It seemed almost amused at the lyolf’s happiness over something as simplistic as a flower, its body shaking out as a few stray petals landed on it. Resembling a dragon, it was not quite clear what the creature was, but one thing was for certain, it was quite large!
“Here!” letting the creature sniff at the petal, Whisper held it up to it…only to have it huff back at her in indifference, its nostrils blowing a gust of air and ruffling up her silver hair-
“You could at least pretend to enjoy it. I thought it was nice…” she dejectedly said, her ears folded back. The creature merely curled up around her, as if it were protecting her, before closing its eyes. Rolling her eyes, Whisper stood up and surveyed the area. It was a gorgeous day to explore and enjoy the unusually warm winter weather they were having right now. As she moved a few feet away, the creature stirred, starting to get up as well-
“No. You can stay here. I will be fine on my own.” She said, but her words fell on deaf ears as it followed her anyway. With a sigh, she shrugged and walked on, the creature's steps echoing behind…
It had been following her last week since she left Beijing on her last mission. Nearing nightfall, it appeared on top of a roof and swooped down besides her, blocking her path. There was no way around the massive beast. As she readied herself to fight it, the creature merely swatted her weapons away and gazed at her with its emerald eyes- it didn’t seem interested in either fighting or eating her (thank goodness). It would not fight or kill her, so what did it want? The creature then lowered its head to the ground as it were bowing out of respect or to greet her…curious.
Cautiously, Whisper bowed back to the creature as well. It seemed pleased by this notion, as it let out a deafening roar, before leaping up and down, the ground shaking around them. The creature then lay on the ground, motioning her to hop on its backside- it wanted her to ride it?
“Well things cannot possibly get any weirder. You are either here to help me, or take me to my impending doom… Let’s go shall we!”
Since then the creature, which she decided to call Tamotsu, followed her around on her adventures. Though she still questioned its intentions: was it protecting her- and if so, why? So many questions, yet no answers as the creature did not appear to speak, yet it clearly understood her, as it followed commands…well MOST. It would follow her even when she told it not to. It reminded her of a very annoying doberman she knew that seemed overprotective of her…
I have been wanting to give Whisper a "guardian" or some form of a pet for a while now, but I have yet to finalize what it would be: perhaps a serpent, dragon...I want it to be something that suits her personality, career, and lifestyle. Obviously it is not a necessity for her, but I think it would be interesting, haha. However, finding her a pet is not high on my priority list; if it happens, if happens. If not, oh well.
In the meantime, I gave ellever-10 artistic freedom to design a creature for Whisper, and they did NOT disappoint! Look at this gorgeous beast! It is loosely based on a kirin, or qilin for those of you familiar with Asian mythology. I think it suits Whisper quite well. I highly recommend you watch them if you are not already! Both artists are wonderful to work with~
