I've recently challenged myself with creating a soundtrack for a non-existent old-school JRPG-style game as a way of getting experience writing music and playing with chord progressions. My goal is eventually to have a full soundtrack, including town themes, battle themes, etc.
This was my first go, I took a cord progression I came up with a couple years ago and kept layering on instruments and this was the result. I wanted to end up with a very dramatic and melancholic song, and I feel comfortable about where this ended up. This song makes me think about old veteran soldiers, who've been fighting a losing war their whole lives. I'm not sure if that idea will stick, but I dig the concept.
Any and all critiques are welcome! I'm new to songwriting, and going all-in on harmonies was a bit daunting, but the whole point of this exercise was to get experience.
